Consumers will happily pay for entertainment. When it comes to pure software subs, that is a little different. Tesla has pretty much solved self drive, at least to the point where its safer than the average driver and far superior to anything on the market. That said, (unlike the EV side of competition) competition is coming for FSD, much sooner than later. As you are in IT, i am sure you have seen the cost of software goes to near zero for retail/consumer. Advanced video and photo editing for the average person is pretty much free.

Well...duh. FSD does it so you don't have to do it.

For context, Tesla muddled the water with FSD. It was always intended to be unsupervised with no need of having a person in the driver seat.

Think broader. No more ubers. no more door dash. No more grocery store runs. Send your car to do it.

And for people who have extended commutes to work and have the luxury of working from a laptop or phone, their day can start when they get the vehicle. The sooner Americans adopt, the better.

Americans adopt? There is no way for Americans to adopt this unless they get into a Waymo.

FSD is so good, why hasn't Elon allowed you to sit in the backseat while FSD drives for you yet? What's stopping him?

This is basically where I'm at. I just don't see any huge advantages in forking over almost $1200/yr for this. If I own the car for 10 years, and, assuming no price changes, that's $12,000 for ... that? I drive a lot of interstate miles, and I really don't feel the need to let go of the steering wheel and still just sit there. If I could recline the seat and take a nap while it's going, I would consider it worthwhile (well, I'm still not sure I'd do it).

For 12k a year, I could just get a plane ticket and take a nap...and get there a lot quicker

Edit: Whoops, saw an extra 0. Anyway for 1200 a year, that's like 3 roundtrip flights.

Why doesn't Tesla pivot to something like this? I don't get it.

And the competition has now surpassed Tesla. While people have to create fake scenarios of a Tesla hitting children, Waymo has fully automated the process.

We're doing robots now. Keep up. Nobody drives EVs anymore. That's so 2024.
