If anyone thinks the Rockets FO would trade a FRP to rent a defensively challenged 2 guard who contributes nothing but streaky scoring and has mediocre career advanced metrics… you don’t understand Stone and Witus.
I wouldn't want to give up the world for Coby White, but we are talking about adding an NBA-caliber guard to a roster that only has 1 guy (Sheppard) who might start for other teams. The rest of our guards (Davison, Holiday, and Okogie--if he's a guard at all) might not even make other team's rosters. We are that guard-poor around here, and I think FVV isn't going to come back as some sort of fierce scoring/playmaking option. Coby White would make a difference. He might even win a game or two as your third leading scorer. If the cards fall right and another team picks up a key injury--as happened last year when the Pacer fell apart late--you could go a long way in the playoffs.\\ I'm not sure how much I'd spend here, but we would have won 6 or 10 more games easily if we had someone else who could score and set up others. Are we a top 5 team if we could solve some scoring woes?
He’s a pure rental so i’m not giving up any meaningful assets. Would i trade some 2nds? I guess. But any first is a non starter.
Offers must be low, the post reads as being from Chicago's side with the intent to drive up the price.
The problem I see is that he’s gonna look to get paid in the off season and we already have to worry about Tari (assuming he’s not in the trade) and Amen. I don’t think the rockets organization wants more decisions to make.
Thank you and well said. I would be extremely disappointed if we ended up with Coby White of all players and would much rather stand pat. I honestly don't want to touch any player from that Bulls team... a mix of defensively challenged and/or low iq players coupled with inconsistent/inefficient offense.
I think Ayo is a good player and will probably blow up the minute he leaves the Bulls. Much better defender than Coby and a longer wingspan (almost 6’9”). He’s become a good shooter as well. Not a primary on-ball initiator guy, but would definitely fit into our backcourt. Wouldn’t be surprised if he commanded as much $ as Coby in free agency. I just don’t buy this Coby White - Rockets rumor. It came from Chicago. They are probably trying to drum up some sort of fake bidding war to get more from Minny.
I don't believe this shxx. bad defender, will command big money in the summer, the Bulls will ask FRP(s), and most importantly the Rockets not getting his right to resign him.
There's no decision to make. It's just not possible to offer him more than like $14m per season and multiple other teams will offer him more than that. So if they acquire him, then he's gone in the summer. UNLESS he has a really really bad season and $14m becomes a salary he'd consider, but then why would you commit to someone who had a really bad season? Unfortunately not the right situation for us unless they don't want a FRP.
decent size?! He’s a 6’4 pg that’s bigger than any true guard on the roster especially when compared to the undersized shooting guard we’re forcing to play point now… or the mighty mouse back up (Aaron) or the injured starter rehabbing. If They get Colby, they become immediate contenders taken seriously around the league.
2nd and Adams. Anymore and it's a no deal for me. Adams isn't going to be healthy for the playoffs and honestly I think the style of play has improved in his absence. Udoka only plays him in double big lineups which makes me want to gauge my eyes out. You do not give up Tari or a 1st round pick for a 3 month rental. Maybe Chicaco will take cash considerations as well.
Every year with Stone I sit at my computer for hours hitting the F2 key only to be horribly upset and say that it’ll never happen again. He took the fun out of trade deadlines like the NBA has taken the fun out of the All Star game. I can save everyone time….”we were very close to a deal but it fell apart at the end and we are very happy with our current roster”. Rinse and repeat!
Rockets rules to play: #1 - You must play defense #2 - You must play defense #3 - You must rebound #4 - You must play defense #5 - You must score Y'all can forget about White. He wouldn't see the floor.
This is the only viable trade in my opinion. DFS is potentially very valuable to this team if Tari goes down again. We don’t need Adams this year or the next 2 years. He is a fine backup center, but so is Capella for half the price. Coby’s not a good fit either, because of his defense, but he could play the Reed role when his 3 pt shot is off. He’s also a little better at getting to the hoop than Reed. I’d rather do Adams and second round picks for Coby than not do anything. We can still use instant offense and it would help us keep at least 3 decent 3 pt shooters on the floor at all times. All that being said, we aren’t going to do a trade.
If he's a poor defender and could bolt this summer, then this deal makes no sense. Especially given that he's missed nearly half of the Bulls' games this season(although he was healthy the last 3 years). I know Steven is injured right now, but it's incredibly risky to give him up. He could be back before the playoffs, and if he gets dealt and then Alpi or Clint gets hurt, the Rockets are screwed. I'd be a little more open to dealing DFS, but he's starting to play better lately. It's possible that ankle is finally healed and he's rounding into game shape. BTW, everyone keeps referencing the Suns picks, but couldn't the Rockets also give up one of their own future first rounders? We're just about done with the ones we owe to OKC after this summer, right?
