I don’t give a sh*t about that stuff. He has been a top 5 pitcher for the last 5 years and eats an incredible amount of innings. I like what we have done with the pitching staff, but losing Framber’s innings is a huge setback. His availability is top knotch. We need to just keep him away from the freaking World baseball crap.

A very underrated factor regarding our contention window in upcoming years: we play in a weak AL West division and have more financial resources/higher payroll than our divisional rivals.

We’re the only AL West team in the top 10, both last year and this year.

Combine that with having a smart, well-run organization that maximizes pitching potential? This will always give us shot at making the postseason.

I don't have time for head case types who do **** like that to teammates.... especially minor leaguers.

Inviting a likely locker room cancer back is not how you get a team to advance in the playoffs.

On top of that he's been inconsistent the past several years and even within seasons. He can go from giving up 0 ER and only 2 hits in 7 innings to giving up 7 ER in 4 in consecutive starts and I expect that to get worse.

When you add those 2 things together, he's someone I want nothing to do with.

I agree in many ways, however, I may take him on a 1 year/$30 mil contract right now if he was looking to rebound. But it does make me wonder why he faltered so much last year when he knew he was facing free agency.

This has been true in years past, but might be changing.

Until the Angels get a new owner they will be poorly run and unlikely to be a threat.

Even after they get into their new park the A’s will likely be unable to afford a payroll large enough to truly compete, but they do have a pretty exciting young core of position players that they’ve prudently extended. They could really challenge for the division starting in 2027 especially if the new CBA changes the rules to help small market teams.

The Rangers are in a pretty similar position to the Astros. They have some good young players and some aging players and some players nearing free agency and their farm is pretty barren outside of Walcott. They will be a threat but there’s no reason to think they will pull away from Houston. That said I think they are underrated this season.

The Mariners are the real threat to potentially be a dominant force in the AL West over the next 5-10 years. They have an extremely good team right now and their farm system is among the best in the league. They also are showing an increased willingness to spend money. Who knows how their prospects will pan out but I think Houston’s real challenge over the short and medium term is keeping up with Seattle.

The Mariners may also want to ride the coattails of the Seahawks and win now for the city.

They've already started doing some of this. The OF is already younger. Having dead weight contracts off of the roster next yr will help a lot. If Dana can get a couple of deals done and the picks the right younge rguys in trades this team can be really good for a long time. This is where they really miss Luhnow. If Dana gets lucky and Burrows is a stud then the pitching side of things should help keep the Stros in contention for a few more yrs. I dont really trust Dana as the main decision making GM. He really screwed up signing Walker. Do you trust him to keep this team a contender?

Add one more big LHB to this lineup and they can contend with anybody IMHO.

    I disagree with this.

Pecko/Blubaugh/Pecko/Ullola/Forcucci/ Burrows and a bunch of guys like Hernandez in the lower minors all have the potential to be as good as the guys you listed. What they're missing is in the lineup. There's not a Tucker/Alvarez/Correa/Pena down in the minors. There's a bunch of middling bats in the upper minors. Hopefully Alvarez/Gomez/Neyens/Frey etc... all hit and will be the next wave of Stros talent on the MLB roster.

I can’t see Crane trading off veterans in mass to do a “quick” rebuild

Plus I don’t think we are anywhere close to needing to

It is, however, very important for Dana to have some of these draft picks “hit” if he wants to keep his job

i guess it depends on how the Phillies feel about signing an Austin Hays for 7-8MM and playing Brandon Marsh in CF. Outfield FA options are pretty bad at this stage and Hays is best available. Philly is still trying to win a title. Meyers makes 3.5MM and will be cheap next year as well.

Looking at this further, I think the Astros (as currently constructed) can’t afford to make a trade like this. From a value standpoint, it would be pretty good. But the value gained sets back this roster for the 2026 season in a way that isn’t worth it.

Our OF options are already thin and many are unproven. Yes, we need to get ABs for Cole, Smith, Matthews and Dezenzo, and three of them could probably cover CF defensively. But we also need coverage in RF and LF.

Perhaps a trade of Meyers pushes Altuve to LF more, which opens up 2B ABs for Paredes. If Espada wants to force that issue, dealing Meyers would do it.

If so, I would think Espada has to look at signing a LHB in the OF like Conforto or Winker.
