Craig Biggio tore his ACL and his Medial Collateral ligament tonight against the Florida Marlins. Biggio was trying to turn a double play when the Marlin player slid into him to break up the play. yo, i was just gonna post that... damn, ain't that a shame?!? This is THE guy that makes the Astros run... it's no surprise that he is having an off year and the Astros are strugling so bad. Man, i feel for the guy... he's never been on the DL. I'm always looking for the silver lining, but i don't see one in this. It's a shame that this could have happened to a guy like Bidge. My heart goes out to him, and i hope that the astros are just having an off year, and they'll bounce back next year... with a healthy biggio, caminiti, and wagner. ------------------
What is the deal with cammy anyway? Is he supposed to come back this season? ------------------ "Your not a real member of CC.net unless you have 1000 posts"
Looks like that's it for Biggio...not too many 35 year old guys come back from two ripped knee ligaments... RIP: Killer B's (1991-2000) ------------------ If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding!!
Great....maybe Bagwell can break his hand again, Alou can slip off another treadmill, and Hidalgo can spanky his wanky(groin pull). That would round out a disaster that noone thought would happen...much like the Titanic disaster. Oh...but we have our new stadium . Baseball sucks. Surf ------------------
He'll be back. Not too many 35 year olds have never been hurt. That should help his rehabbing. ------------------ Going for the Rolls Royce! visit www.swirve.com
Hey, look on the bright side...at least we know its not going to hurt our chances of making the playoffs! ------------------ "I've been licking this carpet for hours and I still don't feel like a lesbian!"
This is from Biggio's Official Site: at http://www.athletedirect.com You gotta love this guy. I'll Be Back It's always possible something like this could happen and I guess 13 (years) was my number. I knew we'd collided pretty hard but I was hoping it wasn't bad. I wasn't in a lot of pain, but it just felt weird. I felt like I got whacked in a football game. This is just par for the course the way things have gone for us this year. However, for it to end like this is a little depressing. It's frustrating not only because I've never been on the disabled list but also because we had been playing better lately and I'm not going to be able to help us finish the season. I know I'll be back next spring. I'll be back healthy and with a good attitude and ready to play. Injuries are part of the game, some you can play with, some you can't. I guess considering how many years and games and innings I've had out there and never had anything major happen to me injury-wise, I should feel lucky. This could have happened when we were in first or before the playoffs. But it didn't and that's a positive. It's been a long, long time since I wasn't playing baseball in August and September. It will be strange not playing. But I'll be back next year, that's for sure. ------------------ "Your not a real member of CC.net unless you have 1000 posts" [This message has been edited by BobFinn* (edited August 02, 2000).]
The Astros are in exactly the same spot as the Rockets were this past year. They tanked at the start of the season, then as things are looking up, Biggio / Barkley gets a devastating knee injury. (Luckily, Biggio still has some time left.) It's sad, but there really is a silver lining to this year. The rookies have had a shock treatment -- thrown into the game. Some of these guys are really developing -- and they never would have without the real major league experience. They never would be as far along on the learning curve. And that's really good. When some of the veterans like Caminiti, Biggio, and Wagner come back next year, and guys like Hildalgo and Alou recover more and regain the confidence in their bodies, it will be a stronger group of players. That means we will have a stronger team, and more opportuinites to trade players in our strong areas to fill the weaknesses. Would we ever have expected McCleusky to be one of the best rookie catchers ever? Hildalgo and Berkman to step up? Who would have expected the performance of Lugo after he played so badly in his first few games. And what about Dotel? Even some of the veterans have stepped up and performed at a higher level -- like Spiers and Eusabio. Biggio's injury is horrible for him, but it gives the team even more of a chance to build the rookies in a lost year. The Astros have put this year in the tank, and are now taking the opportunity to build the team and players they have. I think the team will have some strengths when it comes to trades in the off season, and will have a much, much stronger year in 2001. ------------------ Stay Cool...
True dc. Hidalgo,Lugo and Meluskey are gems. Lima is having all sorts of problems this season, and Holt...well Holt just has bad luck They will bounce back next year, I am sure of that. ------------------ "Your not a real member of CC.net unless you have 1000 posts"
I would like to see him return as a catcher. That would be awesome! ------------------ humble, but hungry.
