What do you think? I guess title is a leading question; the defense would surely object.

btw: this isn't an isolated incident by any stretch. We run split action, a lot. But here, it is cool to see 3 identical plays, same game, 2 with Sengun as the Princeton big, one with Capela.

for those interested...this is Point Away ... from the Princeton Point Series.

I'm not enough of a hoops savant to know.

I do know the combination of Durant with the whole rest of the team is clunky. He's still not properly integrated into the offense, and it may not even be possible to integrate him and still get his scoring.

Good breakdown. Sengun has turned into a “me first” offensive player. At the point you mentioned that he wasn’t ready to make the pass, he was DEFINITELY looking to take his man off the dribble. Year 1-3 Şengün would’ve run the play.

and the key to GSW-level split-action is you actually have to threaten all options. Can't do that without practicing all of them. It's better for Katie, it's better for Sengun, slipping options, flairs by KD, other shooter like Reed cutting for DHO, KD cutting for DHO ...

All of those work better if you first embarrass defenses with the slip. Hence the coach's reactions in those plays.

It's regular season, get your slip working, Katie.

Genuine question because you're much more observant of our plays than I am and I'm not bad with the basics. Do you not feel like that's often been our issue the last few years with a lot of actions? Even the basic P&R I learned as a youth player had more options than "immediately shoot the 3 or rapid fire dump it back to the bigman before he's even got past his defender" which are the main 2 options we had with the FVV/Jalen and Alpi 2 man game. We never kicked to the corner, we never held the ball to let Alpi actually get the advantage, half the time the defender didn't even really need to switch or chase, the big man just had to take 2 steps backwards because it was that predictable. A lot of what we do feels half-done to me, like we're only using a small number of the options available in our actions and the oppositions rarely need to adjust because of it.

Sengun is definitely more conservative with his passing this season. Not sure if it's him, the coaching staff told him to cut down TOs, or he's mainly focus on KD.

Capela willing to attempt that pass and Sengun didn't is concerning. Like you said, the defender was draping all over capela and he still got the pass off.

Was it because it was the 4th quarter and the game was somewhat close so Sengun didn't want to risk it? Because ain't no way Sengun didn't see Amen there. He was 100% looking at Amen's direction.

Can this coaching staff pull up some Rick Adelman's offensive sets and show Sengun what Scola, Landry, Chuck Hayes, and Brad Miller did to get the pass off to cutters?

Like I said in another thread, Sengun will become less selfish after All-star selections are made. He's competing for a spot.

    we need a hoops deviant . . . you know, like @Jontro. He'll give us a sure-handed response.

Sengun stopped developing as a playmaking big like 3 years ago.

SenHub is a thing of the past.

Its like he goes home every night and beats it to that play at the end of regulation vs the Bucks and just wants to recreate it.

The implication of the topic title and then even listening to the commentary is that this is on KD. However as much as KD can get that shot whenever he wants it is on the passer to make the decision, so I put this more on Sengun than anyone. KD is shooting the shot available based on the clock and where he receives the pass. Clint takes the chance and makes the pass. I don't know if Sengun even looked for Amen on either of the passes that weren't made. And even on the Amen bucket the corner shot was the better shot as Jabari's defender rolled to the paint to semi-cover Amen leaving Jabari wide open.

Where do we go from here? We are over vested and we have no idea how to play the players we have together in a way where everyone is used to their strengths.
