Comparing Reed's second year to Jalen's isnt fair to Jalen in the sense that its like bullying. The only things Jalen did better than Reed is shoot more shots and he was slightly better at free throws. He got to the rim better too, but it didnt amount to much. Reed shoots better from inside and outside. And also has better passing stats. By like, a lot. Reeds defensive metrics also blow Jalen's out of the water as well. Jalen was a negative player on the court on both ends and wasnt even a bright spot on a team that was awful where he had free reign. He was a big reason for how bad they were. Reed has had a huge impact on games for a winning team. Both still young and their careers can fo a lot of different ways, but right now I like Reed's trajectory a lot more than I did Jalen's. Its actually not even close to me.
The biggest issue with Jalen was how easy it was to guard him in big games whereas Reed has already had signature games vs the Nuggets, Spurs and Thunder. Its really hard to guard a genuine 3 level scorer because theyre going to hit the shots you give them which then causes you to have to defend that and open up their other arsenal. Jalen would just die by sagging off of him a bit, defending his eventual dummy drive with a shading help defender and daring him to shoot. He'd miss, get in his head and then it was 4v5 the rest of the way.
Here is Reed’s 3PT % for the past 20 games: 40% vs LAC 33% vs DEN 30% vs NOP 67% vs DEN 44% vs SAC 20% vs LAC 25% vs LAL 40% vs CLE 20% vs IND 33% vs BRK 33% vs DAL 25% vs PHO 14% vs POR 36% vs POR 50% vs SAC 40% vs CHI 33% vs OKC 67% vs MIN 43% vs NOP 40% vs SAS 11 games out of 20, where he shot under 40%. 11 games out of 20, where he is completely useless. So yes. Inconsistent and streaky. He could be averaging 40% on the season, but game to game it’s 50/50 on which Reed you’re going to get. And that’s not even discussing all the other holes in his game. I bring up Jalen because I’m just done with prospects who look like a star one game, then a total bust the next. And continue that rollercoaster back and forth for a whole season. @Easy @MystikArkitect @Bobbythegreat @LosPollosHermanos
Everrything you said was addressed 3 posts above this You decided not to address a single point because you have an agenda that you need to get out. Im going to put more effort than I should because again, everybody took a dump on your post for a reason. Rookies and de facto rookies will have slumps. It’s not that he’s inconsistent, it’s that his role and minutes were not consistent and he hit a series of games where he didn’t play well. When you realize “oh wait it’s not a 50/50 maybe the player whose played 30 or so games had a 10-12 game stretch where he played like garbage shortly after being thrown in and out in erratic lineups” maybe you’ll realize why. Coming to simple conclusion is easy, analyzing the situation takes intelligence. Try using it. Hell, even use AI. we get it though— Reed spends the night and you have to sit by the bedroom door.
He's shooting above 40% for the season and shot 50% in college. No one gives a **** about your cherry picked random stats to try and prove your point.
Exactly, he is still providing the gravity needed for others, the passing, the steals, the blocks....he won't shoot great every game, no one does.....but he will often enough to matter. Ask yourself this, would you rather have Durant shooting 100 midrange shots at 51% or Reed shooting 100 threes at 40%? Which one is better? DD
It's even more than that....he really opens up the game for Durant himself. If Jabari could actually be a consistent shooter that trio would be impossible to defend. Or if Sengun could set actual picks for Reed instead of faking the screens all the time in hopes of padding his stats.
This is such a horrendous take. You know guys who shoot 40% dont shoot 40% every game right? Best shooter of all time last 20 games: 35 22 40 63 22 36 30 20 36 41 50 26 33 50 27 25 44 25 50 28 13 games shooting less than 40% You can go through any shooters game logs and you'll see similar variances. Thats not what people generally classify as streaky. Streaky is when you have long stretches of poor play and then sudden short bursts of really hot play....like Jalen As far as the not bringing anything else when the shots arent falling thats false as well. Does he need to get better at the other areas of his game? Of course. Needs to keep making strides on defense. Id like to see him get to the rim more and take contact. Needs to continue progressing as a passer. But hes one of the better ball handlers on the team, he causes turnovers, hes one of the best passers on the team if not the best. Despite some bad stretches he is still one of the least turnover prone ball handlers. Hes only behind KD in regards to pnr productivity. Not to mention even when the shot isnt falling his gravity still opens up the floor and creates space for others to operate. Theres legit criticisms and there is nonsense like this. Complete rubbish that i really shouldn't have taken the time to respond to but, here I am.
The greatest thing about Curry is not when he makes a shot, it's the threat of him taking the shot. It completely changes how defenses can play him. If teams guarded Reed the way they guard someone like Okogie, the rockets would literally win the championship this season. The original of this was the "moss effect", how having Randy Moss on the field tilted what coverages teams play. That's what Reed can bring and that's special.
...wait are you trying to explain to someone that posted a string of games to prove his point...what an average actually is?? That this person trying to make a point doesn't understand basic things like mean, SD..varriance?
I wouldn't call any game where he was 1 for 3 or better as "bad" or "useless" anyway, that's just normal variation for a 3P shooter, and is roughly equivalent to shooting 50% from two (albeit with fewer fouls drawn per shot).
I don’t think Sengun is intentionally setting bad picks, he just isn’t very good at it. I don’t know how that is coached.
Are you saying that if Reed shoots under 40% from 3 in any game, he's completely useless? That some weird logic.
Sengun is setting a pick to slip it, every time, Adams is setting a pick to let the guy get free for a shot.......neither is correct, the best pick setter for both is Capela who sets a good screen then rolls.....appropriately. DD
Curry’s ability to get to the rim and finish is also a factor in his greatness. He’s also a terrific passer and has better handles than Reed. Not saying Reed can’t get better at those things, but asking him to demonstrably improve those areas in-season is a tall ask. It’s the same in asking Amen to be a perfect PG after 40 games in the position. Most of Clutchfans are extremely short of patience.
I think Adams is as good at rolling as Capella, but has rocks for hands. I do think Capella fits this team better, but his physical conditioning is suspect.
Those things are entirely a result of defenders closing out too hard because they are afraid of his shooting and things he couldn't really do at Reed Sheppard's age. As to the passing, it's a wash. Current Reed Sheppard can make every pass current Steph Curry can.
