You're right. They drafted Reed because he was BPA in their minds, not because he fit a particular archetype or our personnel at the time. And they said if he were not available they could have traded out of the draft entirely. FVV just happened to be an available mentor to Reed, unrelated to the reasons for drafting him.
I wanted them to trade out into this upcoming draft, but I don’t think they had any takers. Originally I wanted Dillinger if they kept the pick, but BTG of all guys talked me out of it and I voted on Reed in the poll. I’m glad they got him and think he was the right pick, but I’d trade him tomorrow for a top 3 pick in this upcoming draft.
That's an absolute no brainer to trade Reed for a top 3 pick in this draft. 2024 is turning out to be a decent draft though. Nowhere close to the 2000 disaster. I doubt any MVP will come out of that class and maybe not even all-NBA, but it wouldn't be surprising if a few guys make an all-star team at some point and a lot of guys have a good shot to stick around the league as starters or high-end bench players on good teams out of Risacher, Sarr, Reed, Castle, Holland, Clingan, Edey, Buzelis, Ware, Jaylon Tyson, George, Dunn, Ajay Mitchell, Wells, Shead, and Cam Spencer. Maybe a few others.
I agree it’s not as bad as many of us thought. I really think Sarr may end up really good. Castle will too if he learns to shoot 3’s.
Ty! Only 4 were available on the table so I let my kids have those and I was a few rows back, but lived vicariously through their videos lol
I don’t mind him off the bench, as long as he is getting 30MPG, he is the only player that makes everyone else better, by his movement on and off the ball. DD
It’s hard to play that many minutes from the bench. If you come in with 5 minutes left in the 1st and 3rd you only have 38 minutes left. I guess doable but you get him playing some of those minutes exhausted.
Right. I only catch bits and pieces of a lot these players but Sarr would be my best to make an all-star team. Agree on Castle though I'm skeptical the 3's are ever going to come with him. Several of those guys I listed (including Reed) have a shot at being an allstar if everything kind of hits right with them.
I don’t understand how some of you fall for this every time with these types of prospects. Reed is another Jalen to me. Inconsistent, streaky, but somehow even worse because he is such a liability defensively. If his shot isn’t falling, he provides absolutely nothing and is unplayable. That screams role player/microwave scorer off the bench.
Except that Jalen never averaged higher than 35% from 3 in a season. Reed is shooting 41% even after a long cold stretch. And Jalen dished out 3.4 assists in 33 mpg while Reed dishes out 3.2 assists in 25 mpg.
I don't know why him or anyone would want him/self to jack up 3s...... His perk is that uber fast first step and athleticism, explosiveness....which Jordan Ott would come to enjoy.
Maybe it’s all hype but the top 3 picks , well top 2 look like franchise players You trade anyone on this team imo
If Jalen was as good in his 4th season as Reed is this season, he'd still be in Houston. Looking at net ratings Jalen is a -3 in his 4th season, Reed is a +11 in his de facto rookie season. Essentially the only advantages 4th season Jalen has over de facto rookie Reed Sheppard is playing time and shot attempts.
