I agree with the potential for the extra year of control, unless he comes out raking in ST again. Still, he will definitely be called up at some point.

We will be in deep trouble if we trade Abreu

We would need to acquire a RP via Meyers.

No way Dana wants Cam at AAA, he is his prize prospect from the biggest trade he has made as a GM

He very likely understands it may be necessary, but I can guarantee you that Dana wants Cam to rake in ST and be the starting RF or CF

People forget how good he was early on last year, and how little time he had in the minors

We aren’t getting the top set up man in baseball for Jake

I don’t think people here value just how good Abreu is, they will if he is gone though

And Hader is FAR from a sure thing going into this year

    Thanks for sharing this.
I was concerned with giving up our second best bullpen arm but it's good to know there are other options.

Bullpen arms are volatile so outside of Hader and abreu it's hard to predict what we'll get next season.

Overall an interesting game of chicken between US and Boston.
To see who will blink first, I'm interested to see who is accurately being valued.

Sox fans seem to think Duran/abreu have more value as a 4th OF than paredes starting at third for them.

I guess it comes down to how big of a drop off it is from paredes to e suarez.
I imagine they don't want to pay him what he'll command.

My response was referring to CF in the event Meyers is traded.

Matthews could get 25 starts at 2B and 40 in CF

In his 4 years in college/the minors, he has played 9 games in CF. I don’t see that as realistic.

Yes but all 9 came toward the end of last season. He will likely get some time in CF this spring. He can handle the position and while it may not be a completely smooth transition, he has more than enough athleticism to play there 40 times out of 162.

I can see it start in 2027 if they don’t like Cole as the guy. I see them holding him back until Sept.

There is a better than 25% chance that some reliever (other than Hader) has a better season than Abreu.

I want him on the Astros, but he is a rental so teading him in the right deal could be great.

There is no such thing as a relief pitcher that is guaranteed to be good in any random single season.

There is no such thing as a player that is guaranteed to be good in any random single season. Fixed it for ya

While there are no guarantees in life, since Abreu became a full time leverage reliever in 2022

    2.28 era, 105 K's in 70 IP
    3.10 era, 103 K's in 78 IP
    1.75 era, 100 K's in 72 IP
    1.94 era, 88 K's in 60 IP

He is as close to a sure thing as you will find, absolutely dominant

I believe Dana is smart enough to not trade him while we are trying to win a championship, but if we do trade him I can just imagine the game threads next year when we blow games in the 8th/9th with some random guy who we think can be "just as good"

Yea the whole deal with Brice is gonna be can he make enough contact with the bat. If he can, he will find a place in the lineup

I have a hard time believing they will trade Jake after already trading Melton. When you decide to move the most sure thing you have at a position and you don't have a "can't miss" type of prospect ready (and they can all miss), you need as many options there as you can get to battle it out in ST. We trade Jake now and Cole and Brice both struggle to make contact in ST, we go into the season in a bind

I only want Jake moved if we bring in a CF in a Walker or (please not Paredes) deal.

Abreu has been great for 4 seasons in a row. Why would he suddenly fall off? He is elite.

When Hader first went down last year, 3 of Abreu's next 4 outings were poor

Many people changed their view of him over that little stretch.

He finished up the season fine after that with 6 scoreless over 6 games, including 3 saves with one being multi inning variety

Abreu is dominant, but he will never be the same in some peoples eyes after that 4 games stretch
