Will Point Guard ever be a non-issue with the Rox?

Once again, point guard is the issue with the Rockets. The tandem of Ward and Lue leave much to be desired. Watching Tyronne Lue is painful. Ward has flashes, but on the whole is past his prime, if he ever had one.

The lack of floor leadership is hurting us right now. I dont really know much about Sura's game, as he played in the east. I hope he comes back soon, as anyone is an improvement over what we have now.

When we traded Sam Cassell, it was a long while before we filled the void.

When you make trades that send multiple starters out for a superstar, you end up with a situation like this. I'm sure that we'll make changes before the start of next season. No real rush - our cornerstones still have a most of their career ahead of them.

My feelings exactly. Unless we REALLY struggle, I am not sure we will make any big trades this season although it appears we have our eyes on Antonio Daniels.

I dont think the Rockets feel that Ward/Lue/Sura is the answer at PG but more of a "stop gap" measure until the right situation comes along at PG at a "reasonable price."

Actually, its our PG's defensive liability relative to this team bothers me more.

With Yao and Tmac, how much money would we be willing to spend on a PG?

So, it looks like it'll be an issue forever.

I'd rather the center position be one where we always seem to be set than the PG position... I see where you're going though, and I think a combo of Daniels and Sura would be a really effective one. Fortunately we'll be able to get rid of Lue at the end of the season(right?) if we can find a replacement.

Lue isn't all that painful to watch. He can penetrate and be a good backup.

I agree, this is going to be the situation as long as we build around other pieces. Yeah, Lue is up after this year...I doubt we re-sign him. If we do spend the $ on a point, then when JJ walks (or gets washed up), you'll all be complaining about no production out of the 3 spot. "We need to trade for a 3 who can shoot and play solid D." We're not going to field the perfect team who you'll be satisfied with 100% of the time...it's all about finding good pieces.

Yao shouldn't command much more than the MLE

I know no one wants to hear this but I think the best thing for the Rockets would be a poor season and a high lotto pick to address the PG issue. Seriously how else is this team going to go about improving the overall talent? They're won't be much cap relief for awhile thanks to that great trio of PF's we have. And despite all of the great Glenn Robinson and SAR trade threads, no team wants the crap we have to offer unless we're taking crap back. It could be a few years (or one stupid GM taking our crap), before we're able to really upgrade.

This is why I really envy Dallas, even though they've been a playoff regular they've still added young talent (Harris and Howard), while we've been stuck with no picks, no cap space, and just a sniff of the postseason.

If this isn't struggling I dont know what is this team stinks. The PG position stinks. It needs to be upgraded soon. We need a PG to run the ball up and down the court who can get the offense going and scoring points.

Tanking is not the answer. We need Yao and Tmac to learn to win together, not further cultivate a losing attitude. Everyone else around those two just need to be roleplayers, which isn't that hard to find.

It's not like it's impossible to find pgs w/o high draft picks or a ton of cap room. Tony Parker, Arroyo, Jameer Nelson, Billups, Damon Jones, Tinsley, Duhon ... all servicable guys off the top of my head that have been had for MLE money or relatively low draft picks recently. What will be more difficult is finding a bruiser pf, but even that's not impossible.

We will improve the roster through smart use of the MLE, our draft picks, and signing the right league minimum guys. There just isn't any way of getting around that.

And about Dallas - it's easier to stock up on tradeable talent to constantly revamp your team when your owner is super rich and able to eat even the most ludicrous contracts w/o a second thought.

Didn't mean tank, I don't want to pull a Spurs/Duncan. Just if this season does go to pot I honestly think it would be the best thing, pragmatically.
