I know it is difficult to get into a house. Believe me I had to jump through some major hoops many a year ago when I bought my first house.
But my father always told me your house is your greatest asset. and gives you flexibility in retirement.
I feel somewhat bad for those struggling to get into a new house, but I do not want the value of my home going down as a result of that.

I'm no silver spoon baby; I was a chef working in two restaurants and my wife at the time was working in a low-level job for NY State while she was finishing her Bachelors degree we made it work buy spending on nothing and eating lots of shake and bake pork chops.

Life got better, better jobs for me and my new wife is an average earner 70K, that's kind of average for NY.
and I was able to use my equity in my old house to be the downpayment on my new. and so on throughout the years.

If you want to be in a house bad enough you just have to make it happen. Once you get past the downpayment it cheaper than renting.
May not be a dream home but once you get equity and the housing market goes up, you are set. Just don't finance more than you can afford

 

Great points. Additionally, Trump has helped lower interest rates and is paving the way to use 401k savings as a downpayment on homes. He has also blocked institutional investors from buying up houses... which jacked up home prices... and he's deporting illegals who further put a strain on home pricing and rentals. The man is taking action to deliver affordable housing to the American people. No one can argue with that.

I bought my house 5 years ago at 2.75%, I thought I would live in for 5-6 years to some DIY and sell it, at the time my neighbors were putting a for sale sign on Friday and selling on Sunday with multiple offers. For the past 2 years houses are NOT selling in my area, 4 houses have been for sale for over a year and the price keeps getting reduced, hell my neighbor just listed at $25k of what they bought it for and less then what I bought mine for. My morgate is actually comparable to an apt which is good........my deal is our HOA fees have skyrocketed and shame on my I did not realize they could do that fast, I went from $375 5 years ago to $572 this year due to Insurance costs for the Pool/Lake etc..............the HOA is the devil, my good neighbor who is a lawyer was just vote Prez of the Assoc so hopefully she can do something

I will probably retire here now if the housing market doesnt fix itself
