He also recently just said that Tyus Jones is on the block as Magic want to see what they got with Jett and Jase.

Couple things that should be obvious.

    1. The FO makes in-season trades, not Ime. They like Reed, they think he is good, and are personally invested in him looking like a successful pick, even if just to maintain his trade value down the line. They're not going to trade for a smaller guard that Ime can play instead of Reed (Alvarado, Tre Jones, Schroder, Coby White etc). The minute you do that, Reed's time/trade value as a Rocket is basically over.

    2. We're not going to trade any FRP capital for somebody who we're not planning to be a starter next season and beyond. FO's don't do that anymore.

Like ****ing clockwork. Always too much of a coward to make a deal, yet we will all be here like a bunch of chumps hitting F5 and then complaining for a few days after.

This logic tracks. so CH, you think we just live with the Amen/Reed point guard combo for the rest of the season, come what may?

    And then in the off-season

"Fred would have made the difference last post-season, and we're confident in his ongoing recovery and availability next season. And with the addition of two second round picks we think we have a championship core here and our next goal is not activating that repeater tax"

I'll be pretty shocked if we do anything significant, interested in seeing if any of those Codman hints come through.

I agree something significant is unlikely to happen.

Rockets may trade Capela and Green to get under the luxury tax.

If something siginificant happens, I hope it is someone like Trey Murphy. Will help now at either PG, SG, or SF, but also fits the team for the next 7 years or so.

Probably yeah - aside from if a surprise buyout guy comes available who is wing sized and can handle/pass. I.e., Lonzo Ball if the Cavs are successful in getting off his salary and another team buys him out. But he'd still just be a 9th/10th man who is probably washed.

I highly doubt the FO is going to "chase" this season. Much easier to let it play out and blame shortcomings on FVV's injury, project outwardly that you believe in every one of your guys, and then be positioned for a significant pivot this summer from a place of negotiating strength.

Stone is just tamping down expectations in case any pursued deals fall through. Who are we after? Who / what will we give up? 2nd apron? Etc. It's GM-speak.

this all sounds right. But I do wonder if they’ll move Tari because they don’t think they’ll be able to extend him. I don’t know where the red lines are, but it’s got to be a possibility, no? I’m not excited about moving Tari, I’m a big Tari guy, but if there’s a good chance we lose him this offseason we probably need to recoup some value before the deadline. If we were real contenders I wouldn’t care so much, but I think it’s more likely we’ll be better next season.

I'd love to have Alvarado. Get some fire back in this group.

Can't rule it out, but at this point there's more upside in holding Tari than trading him. We wouldn't get anything great for him in trade right now, and IMO the median outcome this summer is we re-sign him for a lower number than he thought -- we'd just have to take the health gamble.

But we're a team that needs to take personnel risks and win them.... not avoid them.

Also, Peyton Watson playing so well is great news for us. He'll be the first choice wing RFA over Tari -- better health, and Denver reaaally can't match an offer sheet. We can.

Fixed it for you. KD is only getting older and like it or not he is not a part of our future and we were never gonna win a chip with him. He ruined our rebuild it was a dumb move and it needs to be fixed now.

If we get a guy like Alvarado, Reed can kiss this season goodbye.

I don’t see Stone doing that to himself, it makes the front office look incompetent.

I don’t see what we can do this year. I’m sure Stone would like to bail on Clint’s contract but we need a 3rd C and the cost to turn him into a productive C on a better contract won’t be worth it.

Perhaps Eason for a future first.

Lottery-protected 2028 Houston Rockets first rounder (or one even later) might not be so bad. I don't care that much if we give up the 25th pick or whatever for him, given that Stone's track record late in the first round has been horrible.
