Since 3 way's are more in play this year, how about this

    Red Sox get: Paredes

Cardinals get: Arrighetti, Ullola, Jake Bennett

    Astros get: Donovan, Bello

Good offer. I prefer the power and speed combo of Duran over the contact hitting of Duran, and I would rather an everyday OF than a utility player.

Just heard they pulled Paredes from his family t-ball game today. Could a trade be happening?

    Very solid hypothetical trade.

I also heard McCullers was transferred to a different hospital today. Could a trade be happening?

What am I missing about Bello? I think he is solid but I don't think he is spectacular. I think Burrow can match him. I don't think either is a #2 and maybe not a #3. His K % is 17.7 (Burrow is 24.1). There Whip is essentially the same. They are both RHP so it isn't even a RvsL distinction. How upset would we be if we traded Parades for Burrow?

I don’t think anyone here wants Paredes for Bello as a 1 for 1

Bello isn’t an ace at all, but he is certainly a valuable controllable SP

Don't like Bello at all. Rather have Early.

Who is the last "really good prospect" from one of the huge money teams (LA/Bos/NYY/NYM/PHI/etc) that actually panned out?

Consistently overvalued because of the market and media. For years the saying was "never trade for yankee prospects", but teams always did.

I agree; there is also a lot of cash available to acquire better players; and there is usually a lot of pressure to perform now—which naturally shrinks the opportunity for success.

Boston would have to agree to the deal also though

I don't think Bello moves the needle for me, but they have earned the benefit of the doubt for me regarding pitching.

I will be excited and hopeful about any pitcher they bring in, especially if they gave up substantial value to get him.

Donovan would start at second base with Alvarez and Altuve splitting time in left field and designated hitter. On days where Altuve plays second base, Donovan could shift to left field.

I follow the logic, but I don’t see it playing out that way. The Astros seem committed to increasing Altuve’s time at 2B. I think Donovan would be Dubon 2.0.

If they are going to continue the carousel, keep Paredes.

Roman Anthony certainly looked the part last season.

No chance Donovan pushes Altuve to LF.

Donovan plays both corner OF in addition to 2B, 3B, and SS while being a superior defender to Altuve.

Donovan’s best defensive position is second base. He used to play a lot in left field or right field, but a significant elbow injury sapped his arm strength. Last year, he had 368 at bats as a second baseman, 64 as a left fielder, and 19 as a shortstop.

Because of his very good defense at second base, I stand by my position that Donovan would see the vast majority of his starts there if the Astros acquired him. Altuve and Alvarez would primarily split their starts between LF and DH.

Regardless of Altuve’s defensive liability, the Astros will put him in whichever spot they deem prolongs his longevity and success.
