hey, i have a "multicultural portfolio" due tomorrow. totally forgot about it...gonna be pulling an all nighter. Anyways...i need to know some famous companies or people from the 4 headings above (Japan/China/Europe/The Caribbean) that have contributed to the world or north american culture in particular.

if you guys could just give some vague ideas such as "sony" for Japan...or even more in depth such as "Sony - invented the walkman - people use it every day" then that would be awesome. anything to help my research.

thanks for the help...now to grab my Monster energy drink.

The Caribbean - Pick a musical artist - brings the caribbean beats and rhythms to hip/hop culture, which, is reaching most of America whether they like it or not.

    Some random stuff:

The Caribbean - influence on pro baseball (particularly the Dominican Republic). Bob Marley - music.

Europe - The auto industry in Germany. Maybe something with NBA.

European Movies: A buch of directors that infulenced American Movies. Sergio Leone with the Clint Eastwood movies. Goddard, Renoir, Bergman, Lang and Fellini are also famous ones.

Japan: video games and electronics. Not sure but you may want to check who came up with CD;s and DVD's and HDTV...im pretty sure its japanees companies.

MLB players (particularly Iciro and Nomo). Akira Kurosawa - famous director that influenced George Lucas (charactors of C3PO and R2 were influenced by The Hidden Fortress)

    Japanese inventions
Mechanical Pencil.. as known as "Sharp"
    Plastic Pencil Eraser
    Folderable Umbrella
    Television Antenna
    Digital Camera
    VHS
    Wrist Watch
    Instant Ramen Noodle
    Walkman

These are some I can recall from top of my head...

Both Chinese and Japanese food have significant amount of impact on the US's food culture. You can now always find Chinese restaurant in every corner. Sushi has become one of the most trendy food in the nation as well.
You can also argue about the impact on children. American kids now days are growing up watching Power Rangers, Pokemons, and other Japanese animations.
Well.. hopefully this could help you in anyway .

KLOL - Mega Latino plays REGGAE-TON, a mixture of REGGAE [Jamaican] and Spanish-singing with multi-cultural caribbean beats to enhance and mix sounds to appeal to a Spanish-Speaking continent. It's catching on FAST... I don't like that it's only wannabes that do listen to it, though... I wished they'd only sing it in English, or only in SPANISH... I hate the mixing... you can't get less ghetto than that...

OK, that was my Jamaica contribution... ;)

For Chinese and Japanese, all the martial arts movies and schools, the "Kung Fu" grip, the Shaq-Fu thing, the better car quality in Toyota, Honda, etc.

For European, well... they gave us the BUSH family... ;)

3814, while your frustration is completely warranted, think of it this way: at least you don't have to pull an all-nighter a week from now.
