You're right, Reed on-ball offense requires screens and staggered screens and pindowns etc. He is bad at creating shots 1v1, and doesn't have the tools to get better at it.

Ime wanting Reed to be a Derrick White -- a part-time efficient Iso creator and a part-time off ball 3&D guard -- is a waste of time IMO. He will never be that guy. He can't iso, and 6'2 guys contributing value via spot-up 3's + defense aren't NBA rotation players.

So agree with you, Reed's future here is ultimately dependent on scheme + offensive philosophy changing to suit him, which I doubt Ime wants.

Are you comparing Reed Sheppard to prime Steph Curry? Steph Curry is a generational shooter. Reed is a great shooter along the lines of Grayson Allen. I went to suns vs rockets game and watched him hit almost half court shots with ease during warm ups. I played a rec game with Matt Maloney and had different respect for him at the 24hr fitness off of Dunlevy. Reed is great shooter but comparing him to Steph is kind of absurd.

Why do you think he doesn't have the tool to get better at it? All he needs is improve his handle. That's not too farfetched.

He has a slow first step, stiff hips, isn't rangy, and doesn't have much natural elusiveness / agility. Nor does he have that old man game feel for winning in small spaces.

There's no shame in that - efficient scoring 1v1 vs NBA athletes at 6'2 is not normal, it's a special trait that Reed doesn't have. He has other ones.

He is a screen dependent player, at least to fully utilize the skillset that is the main reason he is in the NBA. Lots of very good offensive guards are.

    It’s called reading comprehension

go back and reed* what I actually wrote

So I’ll say it again. If prime Steph curry was on this team, he would be benched and be getting pulled left and right. It doesn’t matter that he may be the most gifted shooter of all time. This coach is completely incapable of seeing anybody that isn’t a PJ Tucker, Juwan Howard type of player, perform. He doesn’t care whether there is a 500% increase in offensive output ina hyperbole situation like curry. He would be nitpicking any defensive lapses

Udoka was a failed player in this league. Nobody even knows he had an NBA career. He did all the wrong things and avoided getting even serviceable minutes. Now he’s taking all the wrong things he did and expecting people to mimic them.

I know what you said but, what im saying is Steph is a generational shooter on this team and that has different effect. Steph has different gravity than Reed Sheppard. You assume he would have a short leash under Ime. Tell you the truth that's wrong. You dont know. Its an unknown variable in an experiment that consists of a, b, and c. C is the unknown variable. Thats your hypothesis, so be it. You can say what you want, insult me. I dont care. It is what it is.

Of course we don’t know for sure but we have to use past behavior to predict future behavior. This isn’t a scenario where prime curry is traded and a realized entity. If udoka arrived while curry was on the roster he would be hyper fixated on curry’s defensive mistakes.

one of the only reason green was important to the warriors is that he would help with curry’s defensive weaknesses. And curry has them.

you can’t seriously believe that udoka would allow him to sag off his dude etc all game when all this guy knows is defense. We’ve had the worst shooting stretch in NBA history and he is still playing 4 non shooters. This guy doesn’t think the offense is a problem. Sometimes you have to look at current behavior and ask yourself why someone would do something differently. That’s my evidence and backing, yours is “I’m sure he would be more understanding..”

That Jalen Brunson-style knack for beating his man in a phonebooth via balance/weird off-rhythm movement/quicker thinking, and without obvious physical advantages.

Some guys just seem to have that ability IMO, as if their brains move faster. Reaves is another example. It's what makes them special.

No, I dont believe that Udoka would tolerate some defense efficiency. The thing about Steph Curry is he would beat his man off the dribble. He would do the intangibles, like block out. Them series against the Rockets when Harden was picking on him yeah, but Harden had is dissapearung acts and i would watch Curry block out. Its the intagibles that win series. You may not be the greatest defender, but please do the intangibles. I mentioned in another post that Reed is a shooter and maybe this is not the right offense for him, but I did say that when It came to defensive possession yesterday the Rockets played 18 seconds of great defense to have it all squandered away on an offensive rebound, because Reed didnt block out this is in the 4th quarter. My coach was a defensive minded coach and that was a big no, no especially in the crunch. He's our best 3 point shooter, but the other guys are not going to struggle forever. We had a slump last year, same reasons. 6 game losing streak. It will start clicking again.

12:57 mark. All Reed had to do was stay in front of Jaylen Williams. Amen leaves his man to help Reed , because, he's beat kick out 3.

    Yes you picked 1 play.

I’m so confused at your interpretation of how basketball should be played

Randal had 32+ pts on mostly easy shots. Our defense on him and naz Reid were the lapses in the game

That one play by reed didn’t have a bearing on the game, there is a reason that him being on the court was the only reason we took a 12 point deficit to 2 pts in the first half and then took the lead in the 2nd half.

You want to post all blow bys Randal did on the whole team. Oh wait that was all reeds fault. When you magnify plays as “oh man that was a sick cross or that was such a blow by!” You lose that it was still just 1 or two plays, that despite Sengun, Jabari, Durant etc having aesthetic defense points scored is points scored

Listen man, when you’re going off “I think Ime would because …”

I really don’t care. Ime has an easily verifiable, provable and consistent manner in about how he allocates playing time and plays (lack of) offense

Curry is not a good defender. I saw harden abuse him for years. Udoka is not a guy that think beyond whether someone is at a defensive disadvantage. You can keep trying to tell yourself and me that you think he would wake up and realize what we would hope he would see, but the burden of evidence shows that he wouldn’t. He hasn’t, yet. The burden of proof also demonstrates that Curry’s shooting would also fall off. Sophisticated and consistent screen coverage, rolls etc would disappear

The issue is that Ime is not someone who is willing to change what he wants to do in order to fit his players, he just demands that his players fit what he is trying to do.

You could give him rookie Curry, and he'd be riding the bench due to not being tall enough and not good enough defensively.

    That's just who Ime is.

Ive been saying this before they drafted him. Im surprised Ime and Stone didn't see this inntheir evaluations.

Reed can not get his own shot, he is strictly a SPOT UP SHOOTER. Additionally, as we all know is bad on defense. This causes problems.

He's not going to get any taller
He's not going to get any longer
He's not going to become more athletic

If you can trade him at the trade deadline, you have to do it. If they can get anyone who can put the ball in the basket, they have to make that move

Ha, this wasn't my conclusion at all.

I'm personally high on Reed -- but as an offensive primary, in an offense with lots of screening actions (like many teams run). He has a rare combination of elite traits.

If Ime philosophically doesn't believe in that kind of offense, and wants Reed to be a different kind of player (that he'll never be), then it's probably better for us and for Reed for him to be somewhere else.

Agreed, since we are stuck with Ime, dump Reed and get the kind of player Ime would appreciate....I hear the Warriors want to dump Kuminga, he's EXACTLY the kind of player Ime would love. Can't shoot for **** athletic wing.

There shouldn't be confusion. I picked that one play because you are 5 guys on a string basically. Im not saying no one on that string gets a pass but, that's why OKC's defense is so good. There is gravity on defense as well as offense. If someone has to come over because you took a bad angle that breaks the string. Which leads to constant rotation that leads to disadvantages. Maybe we'll never agree. It's fine everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I hope Reed continues to be successful in his time given, but just acknowledge he has to get better on the defensive end. Thats all.
