Was saying this in the other thread, but watch how Demeco Ryans coaches CJ Stroud when he struggles and compare it to how Ime coaches Reed. It is night and day.....Ryans is twice the coach that Ime is, and he inspires players instead of berating them....Ime will lose the locker room as players begin to tune him out, as they realize he offers them NO HELP whatsoever on offense. Ime tears em down, and Ryans builds them up.........Demeco FTW. DD
Reed being on the court is never "okay" on defense. He is always a liability. He's simply too small and weak to not be targeted. Minny was letting Mike Conley go at him.
You must not have been watching the game…at all. that is so blatantly false even the basic metrics prove you are wrong I don’t understand why people choose to run with these lies and false narratives that are easily verifiable. why don’t you pull up a couple of plays or cite them. Because Reed blocked and shut down Mile a couple of times..That’s why a several of posts just earlier (in this thread) cited there was no reason for him not to play particularly against geriatric Connelly.
I watched the entire game and the Wolves were running plays to get Mike Conley matched up against Reed. If I were an NBA coach, I'd hunt Reed all the time. There is no reason not to.
Even Calvin Murphy was very complimentary of how Reed played, including his ball handling during his half time commentary. Ime is just an inept coach and is not professional at all.
No they weren’t, like I said cite some plays. Because all myself and most people , well everyone..saw was Connelly getting owned repeatedly. I think he drew 1 foul. If that is your metric right there you might as well say every player got hunted and owned on defense. this was not a game where you feed into that defensive narrative: the #s, eye test, majority opinion all reject your take. I say this liking the majority of your posts and takes btw
Sabotage? That’s a huge stretch. Has a short leash with him? Yes. The fact is Reed is a great shooter but a very sub par defender. And that’s only because of his size. He hustles and has arguably the most grit on the team The problem is, without a TRUE PG our team isn’t complete. Could Reed be that guy in the future? Maybe. But when we traded for Durant it was clear we are in win now mode. Nobody foresaw FVV going down. Reed would have been in a perfect situation if he was healthy. Stone/Ime/Coaching staff aren’t giving the keys to Reed for whatever reason, but I’m sure his defense and experience has a lot to do with it. Gonna be an interesting trade deadline.
Reed’s defense was actually passable tonight What got him benched was taking a heat check 3 early in the shot clock. He didn’t get the memo that you’re suppose to score through Jabari or Amen.
Fans call Demeco a sunny side, too happy, "smiling too much" softie. But like Udoka, you don't have gritty defenses by being soft. Its just different communication forms Then today it's just not like the old days, where it was hard ass "Coach hates his QB" contentious relations. No it's not a "Millennials" thing, people just don't wanna hear that crap lol. The Bobby Knight way was institutionally tolerated, but never personally liked. No Udoka is nothing near a Bobby Knight tyrant. But Sheppard isn't gonna grow 5 more inches & height & arm length. Sheppard can only IQ compensate so much. And when Sheppard knows he's at that point, it can be tuning-out from there. BUT he has offensive skills to tap into Meaning, yeah trusting Ime to value offense.. Reed might be getting Whitmore'd before Usedmore lol
DeMeco was a good player as a pro and he’s a great nurturer as a coach. I would have traded CJ at halftime of the last game.
Reed will be putting up 20/5/5 on the Kings after we include him in a package for DeRozan and Westbrook.
Reed is definitely up against it. Ujoka is like Scott Foster, you have to be 10X better to keep him from f**king with you. Even then he’s still gonna find a way to screw you over.
I think this was exactly the reason why. Ime was PISSED at Reed's defense a couple of times, and rightly so, but it was still stupid to sit him for as long as he did.
I’m willing to let Ime experiment with different lineups and player combinations. The regular season is really a long preseason for the playoffs. Figure out what works and what doesn’t. Ime has been trying some new things the past few games and I’m okay with it. I think Reed has great potential and he’s made a big leap this season, but he still has his shortcomings. Clutchfans always want the coach to hold players accountable until it actually happens. Then they get upset with the coach. I don’t think Ime has any kind of hate towards Reed. I think he’s trying to make him into the best player he can be. I actually think Ime is very high on Reed. Let the coach be the coach. We can judge him after the playoffs. But, I see the Rockets as a top five team in the West, not a top two team. So, my expectations may be lower than many other Clutchfans.
We just need to trade Reed since Ime is too incompetent to play him. Get whatever you can for him and try to get another tall athletic wing who can't shoot for **** to replace him with.... Ime will love it.
Totally true AND it is okay as long as Reed ends up with 2000 total minutes (25/game). Reed needs to get better on defense by becoming stronger and better at positioning his body. Reed has developed a lot from year one to year two. The past 10 games before last night were not good for Reed offensively. Very inefficient. I just see this as a sophomore slump and look forward to a hot streak to offset. Hopefully he gets hot ina playoff series or two
I think we need to trade for another rim protector. We can get Huff for cheap - he's averaging 2 blocks per game (#2 in the NBA) and only making $2.3M I think the struggles of playing Reed extensive minutes is when he gets hunted on defense, he tends to let his man go by to gamble on getting a steal or block. What does that do to your defensive scheme? It makes Sengun become your rim protector and he's not a great shot blocker to clean up Reed's mess. Also, Steven Adams regressed this season and Capela is a shell of himself. In addition, we can get Mathurin at $9.1M Adams or Capela (Pacers choice)/DFS/FRP for Huff/Mathurin...most likely a 3rd team would be involved, couldn't see the Pacers would want more salary on their books. The first round pick would be enticing for them to give up Mathurin who is another playmaker we can use.
