There's a subtext that hasn't been discussed but all of the US automakers killed plans to build EVs in Canada. When the 100% tariff on Chinese EVs was implemented here, all three US automakers were planning to build EVs here so we had an actual EV industry that the government wanted to protect. Of the big 3, only GM ever bothered to get EV production going (Brightdrop electric delivery vans) and they announced they were killing it entirely a few months ago and they are shuttering the GM assembly in Ingersoll. Ford and Stellantis also cancelled their EV plans in Canada. All three companies took hundreds of millions in subsidies to fund EV development from the federal and provincial governments and ended up doing nothing with it.

And given the very open threats from Trump around ending Canadian auto manufacturing in its entirety and you can see why Canada decided to let in some Chinese EVs. China is extremely unpopular here but in amazingly the US is now even more unpopular than China which has resulted in this very bizarre situation.

Yeah - not so sure about that.

China has a lot of serious problems, from a global and domestic perspective.

The USA airs it's dirty laundry for all to see - China (like most the world) does not.

There are some serious and compelling issues in China right now, and there are some that are all but impossible to fix.

The economic structural problems in China are not going anywhere, anytime soon.

    They have serious population problems.

For all the talk about corruption problems with Trump - they are child's play compared to the deeply entrenched corruption in China from the lowest levels, all the way to the top.

Brother, either you're referencing what China was two decades ago or this is pure cope. Modern day China never allow capital to take precedence over the state's power like we've allowed here at home. In fact, lobbying is correctly labeled as bribery over there. Corruption in politics as well as business actually gets rooted out and appropriately punished unlike here at home. They actually have a system where people in power or with wealth are kept in check. Sure there are still instances of corruption that take place over there which is inevitable, but comparing our situation to theirs is completely asinine.

Someone like Trump who has a history of fraud, rape and pedophilia would've long been imprisoned in China or possibly even executed.

Trump commuted/pardoned more people this week.

One person in particular is unusual because this this is her second time! Adriana Camberos was convicted in 2017 for fraud and commuted by Trump in 2021. She was convicted again in 2024 for a different fraud case and she was pardoned this week. She should just go commit fraud again and see if she can get a triple! It's practically free money when $48 million dollars in restitution is wiped away as well.

The deal impacts U.S. national security. Advanced AI chip exports to China were banned for national security reasons. Trump has effectively lifted that ban for up to 25% of sales.

US to allow powerful AI chip sales to China, Trump says - POLITICO

“I have informed President Xi [Jinping], of China, that the United States will allow NVIDIA to ship its H200 products to approved customers in China, and other Countries, under conditions that allow for continued strong National Security,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He added that Xi “responded positively.”

The New AI Chip Export Policy to China: Strategically Incoherent and Unenforceable | Council on Foreign Relations

On January 13, the Department of Commerce published a new regulation permitting the sale of advanced AI chips to China, codifying the major policy change that President Trump announced on December 8. The regulation loosens restrictions on the export of Nvidia H200 chips, as well as the AMD MI325X and equivalent chips from other companies, which had previously been banned for export to China.

The regulation acknowledges that exporting advanced AI chips to China poses serious national security risks, while simultaneously creating a pathway to permit their sale.

    ...

The rule inadvertently demonstrates that there is no version of an AI chip export policy to China that is simultaneously permissive, implementable, enforceable, and protective of US national security. While the restrictions included in the rule are preferable to unconditional exports, they are still severely problematic, creating a false sense of security while authorizing very large numbers of AI chip exports to China without enforceable guardrails that prevent their misuse. This will allow China’s AI industry to close the gap with the United States and build the largest data centers in the world, and will not stop China’s military or intelligence services from using these chips.

The strategic case for selling advanced AI chips to China has always been weak: modest commercial gains for a handful of US chip companies against substantial risks of enabling Chinese military AI capabilities, eroding US technological leadership, and increasing Chinese competition for every other U.S. technology company. This regulation, in attempting to thread an impossible needle, only demonstrates that no such needle exists. The most effective policy remains the simplest one: denying the export of all AI chips to China.

biden literally put export bans on high end semiconductors which stopped China from using US technology to develop next generation weapons.

Trump reversed the ban giving China the tools to develop next Gen weapons

Its just absolutely mind blowing how the dumbest lowest iq individuals think theyre smart cuz they watch a random YouTube video.

You forgot to mention biden also worked with Netherlands and got asml to curb selling their lithography machine to china which is the only machine in the world that can develop high end chips. Now all of Europe hates us

    Guys!!

Big news. I just had a meeting with Rory McIlroy.

Rory has officially transferred to me the 2025 Masters title and green jacket.

This is a major accomplishment in golf for me. It truly shows that my hard work skulling the ball on my chip shots, and 4 putting have truly done things in golf that NOBODY else has done. Some say… I’m the greatest golfer who ever lived. Some say… better than Tiger Woods himself. Tiger was great though wasn’t he… he did have some issues though… with the ladies you know… an issue I NEVER had.

But I want to thank Rory for coming to see me yesterday. We have big things planned for him and those things I’ll probably never do for him because I’m not a big fans of Scottish accents, but you never know right.

2025 Masters winner here. Never forget that. What a win. What a beauty.

Trump's Secret Service is now policing 1A protected speech.

Secret Service visits mom who posted she wants trials for Trump officials: door cam

Nebraska mom Jamie Bonkiewicz filmed her interaction with Secret Service agents who came to her door because of a tweet.

"The Secret Service came to my door today because of a tweet. No threats. No violence. Just words. That’s where we are now," she wrote on X in a thread about the ordeal.

"For anyone doubting me. Here they are," Bonkiewicz said, posting a photo of a local police officer and the federal agent as she stood with her screen door open.

She was asked about the comments she made online, and she made it clear, "I want to see their trials."

He then asked if she goes to protests, which she refused to answer.

"Why do you want to know that?" Bonkiewicz asked.

"I'm just curious," he responded. "For certain questionnaires, we have to ask."

He asked if there were weapons in the house and she said there were not. Bonkiewicz was also asked if she "traveled to any Democratic functions or rallies."

"I just answered you," she said about the question he'd previously asked.

"Anything else you want to tell me? Any statements at all?" the agent asked.

Her husband, who was filming the incident, asked what is considered crossing the line on social media.

"Something like this, a veiled threat," he said, shrugging. "Is it a threatening nature? Now that I know you didn't mean anything by it, it's basically a non-issue."

He asked her again what she meant by the comment, and she made it clear she was talking about officials having Nuremberg-style tribunals for those who enabled unlawful behavior.
