[2026] Workout and Nutrition Thread

    I'll start with my stats, but figured I'd make it a separate post. Will be interesting to see if I've made improvements as the 2026 year closes out. Call it an accountability post.


    I'm 6'2" and fluctuate between 200 and 205. I'm probably sitting between 15-20% body fat. In the best shape of my life at 38.

    I transitioned to EMOM workouts at the gym last year in august or so. This gives me 15-30 minutes of inclined treadmill time every day, as well. The results have been awesome for me.

    I've been experimenting a little with peptides, as well, to great results also. Trying to get at least 12k steps a day, too.

    Goals for this year:
    I want to get down to 185, before bulking back up to around 195, and hopefully staying around there.

    Superficially, I want to see more ab definition as well.

    I want to feel as if I'm in better shape going out of the year as I was when I'm making this post.




    Let's see some accountability posts...

    Still doing martial arts 2-3 times per week, dropped heavy lifts to about once every 2-3 weeks, rest of the time fit in lighter weights and body weights workouts such as running, calisthenics, plyometrics, along with functional workouts such as tire flips, tire swings, etc. Mix it all up to meet my martial arts goals that don't take over my life and give me plenty of time with the fam and don't make me be in the gym every day.

    Now, if I only ate smaller portions I would be set!

    I’m 6’2, fluctuate between 190-195 these days

    I mostly do 45 min full body workouts 3x week…mostly with kettlebells if at home, and dumbbells if at the gym

    the kettlebell full body workouts keep my heart rate up the entire time

    still usually play basketball once/week

    usually get at least 10k steps in with daily random activity and walking the dogs at least twice per day every single day unless there’s biblical flooding

    I'm lifting three days a week and riding the Peloton 2-3 times per week. I don't lift heavy anymore and focus on more reps and lighter weight. Hoping to trim down a little bit, but nothing major.

    6'3" no scale but guessing 200. Doing keto and intermittent fasting 16/8. I probably have dropped 5 lbs since Jan 5th. Doing a lot of dead hangs and trying to build my chin up counts. Right now I can get 5 at a time. Body weight squats on a slant board and split squats using the couch. So far, so good. A few other dumbell exercises in the garage gym. Thanks for the thread. By February it should show a little bit.

    Good to see a fitness thread again. I draw inspiration from this ****.

    You asked for accountability, I'll give it to you...

    I've been diligently working my butt off for a good three years or so now. Diligently. At one point a couple years ago I actually laughed out loud when I looked in the mirror with my shirt off; not because I looked bad, but because I couldn't believe how good I looked (for me).

    About a year and a half ago, or so, I decided I wasn't muscled enough for my liking and did what seemed to me like a hard-core "bulk." I basically lost control of my carbs, packed on about twenty pounds(???), and waved goodbye to all but my upper abs.

    Fast forward to today and I'm back down to almost as lean as I was and would like to be. I realize now that I've trimmed down that I don't look as big as some of the "big" guys at the gym (and, if I'm to be honest with myself, I was probably never in the league of some of the bigger guys at any point anyhow). But I gotta say, without a shirt, I'm looking pretty good for an old geezer.

    Forgive me for flexing, I've worked really hard though. Through one sickness after another and multiple minor injuries, in fact. And... I've had a blast along the way.

    Let me tell you, If I can do it anyone can.

    I've got a long ways to go yet. I need to continue to build on my foundation -- my glutes and low back. And I want to get more athletic and see if it's possible to actually feel younger.

    Tip for those trying to stay/get lean and put on muscle: Eating right is key. Weigh yourself daily. You would be surprised how a missed potato or hamburger could set you back.

    Great post! Good job!

    It's amazing how much younger I feel now than I did a year or two ago.


    Other than some nagging knee pain (that stems from my back, and I work out by stretching each morning), I feel probably as good as I did at 18.

    Since rediscovering stretching, my flexibility has also gone back to high school levels as well.

    I'm hoping to be dunking by my 40th birthday. Never dunked before, even though I'm 6'2". I can touch rim, but that's it (white men can't jump).

    Man.......................y'all making me feel guilty AF :D I work out hard Sat and Sunday and I used to hit the gym on Tues and Thursday after work. I leave the house at 6am and get home between 6-6:30pm, its a 45 min drive home in traffic and I am just to beat to do anything during the week. Fortunately I get so many steps in at work that helps but dam its hard to hit the gym that late..................I keep telling myself I am going to go buy a bench and a few smaller weights but I have been lazy.

    OP, thanks much for starting this thread!

    I had two large setbacks in 2025 due to illness and missed a lot of training, particularly late in the year. Still working my way back to previous levels. Probably need another 4-5 weeks.

    Though the process has already started, once I reach previous strength levels, I plan to convert a large portion of my lifting from DBs and cables to bodyweight exercises. My preference was using rings but since my gym has TRX straps, they'll have to do. So far, so good with them.

    Adding martial arts training is also on the table. At the moment, BJJ, boxing and Muy Thai are the three under consideration. My goals are improving balance, flexibility, functional range of motion while also having a little fun. Any advice and direction offered would be appreciated. I currently lift 3x/week, do cardio 3x/week which leaves one complete rest day. Lifting and cardio session are 1 hour each. My thought is to possibly replace 1 or 2 of the cardio sessions with the martial art.

    Despite the two illnesses, 2025 was still a great year for my fitness and I firmly believe 2026 will be even better.
