I was at the game last night in the lower bowl and it was a pretty typical game. Rockets fans are usually very quiet and relaxed until the 4th quarter and this game was no exception. They also show up late. But upper bowl was pretty much full and by the mid-4th quarter the lower bowl was pretty full as well and rocking. I do get annoyed by the rows of corporate seats that show up on broadcasts and seem like they are never filled, but that's not reflective of the stadium as a whole. It's not the best stadium atmosphere I've been to in the NBA, but it's not close to as bad as many make it out to be.
unfortunately this has absolutely nothing to do with the rockets losing streak or the Texans. It’s been this way since the post-championship days or when the Summit closed. Just not a basketball city in my experience.
Summit was drawing 9,000 fans early 93 (a championship year)... and failed to sellout a playoff game that same year (mothers day, game before "choke city").... coming off the season before where they captured everybody's attention in the 7 game epic series vs Seattle and Hakeem with a legit MVP case season. Houston will always be a front running town... but if all three teams are running in front, basketball will be third (as it is in most cities with those three sports and all teams doing well... Boston and NYC included).
I realize there a lot of wealthy Houstonians who primarily have season tickets for the socializing and prestige, but it's honestly kinda embarrassing seeing the lower bowl seats empty until the second half. Are we even going to have a homecourt advantage in the playoffs? I've noticed this too from most broadcasts. If I were rich I'd be letting my friends go.
let it be known that you get free Whataburger if you’re at your seat by tipoff and see the stadium be full like never before
A friend and I went to the Sacramento game this year. Traffic was so congested around the arena that we didn't get a seat til the very end of the 1st quarter. It's a shiit show down there.
