S2 test. “I’m not a test taker. I play football.” Spoiler Stroud, Fields, Haskins, Cardale, Pryor, Troy Smith, Krenzel
The S2 test was BS. It is like the Wonderlic. I could list the Hall of Famers who scored low on the Wonderlic test. S2 test is not an IQ test. What a dumb statement.
As always, I am glad you are not the GM. You don't get a good start QB at the bottom of the first round anymore and trading up is cost-prohibitive and can set you back. Stroud will be fine.
It’s cool that you don’t think he’s qualified, maybe they should have stepped in to undermine/force an OC on a coach who won playoff games in his first two seasons, to comply with your standard. But I was responding to a plea for level-headed retrospection that I found ironic. Stroud sure seemed set up to succeed last night by the way.
Find a QB that has won playoff games in each of his first 3 years in the NFL. I'll wait for your answer. You can count them on ONE hand. All have won Superbowls...and not all of them are HOF candidates.
Bad concussion earlier this year certainly didn't help his confidence -- he's turned into a game manager and they don't deserve the max.
The harsh reality is that franchise qbs arent readily available for teams to just pick up and plug in. We have been for years trying to find our franchise qb. It remains to b seen if stroud will b our future franchise qb but We got lucky finding stroud after the Watson era. But ya let's just get rid of stroud and find another one its that easy. Stroud is in his 3rd season, all winning season plus advancement into the divisional rounds. We been spoiled silly.
C.J. Stroud on 3rd down: Completions: 8 / 12 (66.7%) Passing yards: 152 Yards per attempt: 12.7 Yards per completion: 19.0 3rd-down conversions: 7 / 12 (58.3%) 20+ yard gains: 3 Interceptions: 1 EPA per pass (3rd down): +0.77
Cool how you find every opportunity to downplay Stroud but ignore Drake Maye who also had 2 TOs and only managed 16 points against the Chargers. Or how as I mentioned all the guys you say are better than Stroud had multiple turnover games as well. Not even including Herbert who managed 3 points all game. Caleb Williams 2 TO Drake Maye 2 TO Trevor 2 TO including a game losing interception Purdy 2 TO
I've, at least tried to be, very clear that any frustration from me, with Caley, was rooted exclusively in the Texans hiring an inexperienced OC. I thought/think/will always believe it was the wrong path. But I've been careful to not judge Caley through that lens. It's not his fault he's inexperienced and I'm sure he was a well-regarded, very smart, up-and-coming offensive mind. But I gotta tell ya..... I think they may have gotten this right. Caley was TERRIFIC last night. I don't know if he's yet ready to slay very good DCs, like Schwartz or Spanuolo - but he ran circles around Tomlin and his DC. Think about how good the offense was even *with* CJ having, by far, his worst game as a pro (and with Nico going out). If CJ had just fallen down on the three turnovers.... They likely win... 40-ish-3. If he hits Nico before the half, it may have been ~50-3. CJ was the only thing stopping the Texans (and Blake Fisher) last night. I think they're going to roll the Patriots. Drake Maye hasn't faced a defense like this on his MAC conference schedule. Watch that game last night again: the Steelers were AFRAID. This D is full-blown psycho circus. They steal souls.
Cool how you find every way to defend abysmal play. It wasn’t just the turnovers. He was shook and extremely inaccurate. We’re not talking about other QBs, we’re talking about CJ. But, if you watched any of those games and said CJ played as well as any of the QBs you mentioned then you just aren’t being genuine.
Yeah, he definitely isn't prone to being careless with the ball. Got to think this is more of an anomaly as far as the multiple turnovers. Can Stroud be a game manager that is occasionally making big plays with better more consistent o-line/running game play? I think so but is that worth a typical going rate for an above average starting QB salary? Sadly probably and I would be willing to take the chance on this combo of Stroud + absolutely elite defense. One thing is for sure, someone in the Texans scouting/GM/evaluation room can pick some sick defensive players in the draft at every single position which is extremely rare for a front office. I think he will clean up some things next game but I just hope he learns from this one as I still have faith in him. He still made a couple of big plays in this game. Of course if the defense wasn't this insane he wouldn't have gotten so many chances. The Manning broadcast did point out that DC's know that if you can make him look off his 1st and 2nd option on most plays, he isn't going to be successful. They even mentioned taking away his 1st option and he will be held in check which was a little concerning but makes sense as to his struggles. OC had some nice wrinkles in the game yesterday that I hope they expand on against the Pats. CJ just has to execute.
"Extremely inaccurate"....... Dude completed 65% of his passes. Do you know what "extremely" means? Or "inaccurate", for that matter? If you want to focus on three plays and be mad at CJ Stroud - have fun. They were awful plays, almost entirely his fault (I'll cut him slack on the flea-flicker: no way it should've been called; slow to develop; Fisher whiffed on his block). And if he can't clean them up, their march will end next week. But I'm choosing to focus on the 408 yards of offense; the 5.3 YPR; the 10/15 on 3rd down. That is more than enough to ROLL to a trophy.
Ahh yes, the simple math. Not the actual game play. Majority of his throws were off target but still caught. He had a couple throws that were nice, the long one to Kirk highlighting that. This is why you can’t take any of you player only fans seriously, the broadcast team, your eyes are all telling you he’s off yet you choose to believe it was only 3 plays that were bad. In reality he had maybe 3 good plays/throws the entire night. Antsy, inaccurate and flustered the whole night. At least until the game was out of hand
I said he played worse than those QBs mentioned, but not drastically so. Take away those uncharacteristic fumbles and he played a pretty decent game. That's not an excuse for the fumbles but looking at his Playoff track record, it hasn't been an issue until last night. Last night he was randomly bad at catching the snap, and made one slight overthrow to Collins. Other than that, he played well, nearly all of his reads were correct.
