@MadMax, the obvious solution is to bring Lorenzo White off the bench for this frozen field game 'He's got the biggest feet on the team,' Glanville explained after White led the Oilers to a 23-16 victory that left the AFC Central Division rival Steelers with virtually no hope for a wildcard playoff berth. 'Any time we get in bad weather, we put him out there.' The weather at Three Rivers Stadium couldn't have been worse for the dome-headquartered Oilers. Game-time temperature was 25 degrees with a wind-chill factor of minus-4. By halftime, the temperature had dropped to 18, and 27 mph winds made it feel like minus-25. Snow squalls frequently obliterated the goal lines. But White's size 12 feet, padded by double socks to fill size 13 shoes, offset any advantage the Steelers might have had in the Arctic-type weather. Carrying 23 times, White plowed through the snow for 115 yards and the game-winning touchdown, a 1-yard dive over the middle with 21 seconds left to play. Cris Dishman intercepted Bubby Brister's bomb on the last play of the game to seal Houston's second victory of year over Pittsburgh. https://www.upi.com/Archives/1989/12/03/Oilers-23-Steelers-16/8632628664400/
This was prepped Dec 28th waiting to be unleashed. Make history, Texans 1st road playoff WIN PRIME TIME !!!
This is false. We won in KC this year and it was very cold. Well below 30: https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/us/mo/kansas-city/KMKC/date/2025-12-7
Plus it is supposed to be about 31 with minimal wind and no precipitation tonight in Pittsburgh. That is definitely in the range of normal football weather.
Precipitation ending and 10 hours of sun before kickoff. Field has been covered. Normal "rub of the green" situations, but nothing extraordinary to deal with.
Two approaches to optimizing offensive production are: 1. maximizing mismatches and 2. maximizing uncertainty. They tend to be mutually exclusive because mismatches are generally certain. In practice, coaches try to find a sweet spot between mismatches and uncertainty which is better than either extreme. But the risk is getting less than the extremes. Is the best choice simply changing rather than maximizing what you've done recently?
The NFL should look at a rule change. The team with the best record gets home-field advantage. Traveling to Pittsburgh is really ridiculous. Actually, for both teams. This game should be inside. But, it is not. If I am a Houston player, I am ticked off.
Yeah I disagree. Probably half the time we’ve made the playoffs and hosted was because we were division winners. Not because of record.
