Ime is a good/even elite defensive coordinator but he ain't that guy.....which is fine....because the HOF coaches are not lining up for the job. Much needed upgrade from Silas.....cannot think of an alternative now to be honest that would come here.
he(hlm) is a Jalen/cam fan, give him a break No one predicted Fred getting hurt. however, everyone was calling to sign a guard before Fred got hurt, that isn’t hindsight. Van Gundy decided to sign 10 more forwards and 5 more centers.
Bingo. The front office also doubled down on a contract extension for Jabari when he’s been a non-factor for 3 1/2 years, tripled down on an extension for Udoka after he got badly outcoached in the playoffs, quadrupled down on a new contract for FVV after a terrible regular season and quintupled down on the double big lineup by resigning Adams and signing Clint. Let’s not forget that they also traded away that Brooklyn pick (a tr with no superstar) from what was already seen to be a very deep draft for picks from a team with an established superstar. I love Alpi but his touch around the rim has been gone since his injury (thanks FVV and Jabari for making that happen with your shitty turnover) and the Rockets have compounded it by surrounding him with guys who can’t shoot or make an entry pass. This is just a bad combination - young players who don’t compliment each other playing for a coach that has no offensive game plan to generate easy buckets but expects them to defend like seasoned veterans all game long. At some point, the front office has to decide what kind of team they want and trade away the parts that don’t work. If they want a true defense first team, then Alpi, Reed and KD need to go. If they want to maximize Alpi’s talents as a point center, then everyone else needs to be able to hit 3s at an above average rate. If they think Amen is the figure
I feel like Amen is a running back who gets 100 yards on 30 carries, meanwhile the other team is passing for touchdowns. And people here are like “Woo hoo! 100 yards!”
Another copium of mine now is that they are really just gunning for a lower seed so they can get a matchup like what the Warriors did to us last playoffs. Haha...
The flaws with the double big line up is that they don't finish the 2nd chance points. What's the point of owning the offensive glass if we can't finish off the possession. I feel like we should be absolutely wrecking everyone on 2nd chance points but instead we are only leading the 2nd team by like 1 point. It's a flawed offensive scheme if you can't ****ing convert, therefore, Steve's dominance on the boards next to Sengun is negated by being unable to convert the o rebounds. Offensively he clogs the lane, is one less shooter on the perimeter, and it's forcing us to play a lot more zone because Sengun doesn't have a chance guarding most 4s in the league.
I agree on Castle, I would have never drafted Reed. For what he did in college, to take him at #3 started this downward turn. But Monk, no! Not on that contract
I agree we all wanted another guard, but we all know it would of been an end of the bench player. If we would of signed another competent guard, Reed may be riding more of the bench this season.
Upper management and Udoka got tempted by the big name recognition of KD. True, he's still a great player, but the point of a rebuild was to find the league's next superstars, not reach back to aging superstars of the 2010s. Getting KD only made sense if we had a superstar already on the team. We have promising young players, but none of them are on that tier yet. We would've been better off using our 1st round pick and making trades to deepen our bench (e.g., bring in another combo guard). I also thought we should've sold high on Jabari last year after the Warriors series.
Ask yourself: Do you think this team is a contender? Do you think a team of Sengun/Amen/ancient KD as the three best players can win a championship? If your answer is no to both, think about the implications. Players you like are going to be traded. Probably this summer.
What also really sucks is Jabari’s trade value right now would only return a Bucc-ee’s bbq sandwich and beaver nuggets. Tari probably has more value but he’s obviously out. I really doubt Reed could fetch much in a deal. DFS looks horrible. So not only are we a broken team, but a trade to fix this looks highly unlikely. I’ve got nothing at this point. Just a defeated Rockets fan.
Before the last 2 seasons, I thought Amen and Sengün was at least worth a try but after seeing them in the Playoffs. Needless to go into KD.... those 3 guys at least need a PG on young Dame's level and that is not going to walk thru that door soon. Sengün is a 2nd Option and Amen is a 3rd or 4th ....but a really bad shooter. Sengün is too cocky right now and his head is somewhere in Istanbul with the good food.
