You know, a car is kinda like the sex...you ALWAYS seem to remember the first one most vividly...So, since I haven't the desire nor the intestinal fortitude to hear about everyone's first sexual experience, my question is....What was your first car? What did you like and dislike about it? What are some of the favorite memories of your first ride (which may include the first time you had sex!)?? My first car was an '89 Ford Tempo...EASILY one of the worst cars to ever be spit out of an American auto factory. That thing was in the shop just about every week. The only redeeming quality for the old Tempo was it's excellent gas mileage...I could easily drive for two weeks on a full tank of gas...Of course, I could never AFFORD a full tank of gas at one time, but you get the picture...It WAS my very first car, though, so I'll always have a weak spot in my heart for the Ford Tempo... '77 Buick LeSabre--puke green. I bought it from someone's grandma. It WAS a grandma's car. Still, it had a 350 in it, and it would get up and move. I drove that car into the ground, but I have some very fond memories of it. I banged up the front left quarter panel in my senior year when some jerk careened out of a side street right in front of me and stopped. He managed to get his car just straigt enough for it to be considered "my fault." What a pisser. Oh well, he may have gotten some insurance money from me, but I'm sure he didn't have too much fun fixing up his car--it was a totally restored '68 california special mustang. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
I actually had a nice first vehicle: a 1985 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a V6. And this was in 1986, so it was a much nicer vehicle then than an '85 model would be now. My Dad had bought the truck to haul his boat to and from the lake, and I just kind of inherited it when I got my license. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the hubs were manual locking (and it did snow enough that year where I lived to require 4wd. Rememberng to lock the hubs was a pain.) and the cassette deck was not of the auto-reverse variety (which was odd even for then), but those are very minor complaints. ------------------ www.houstonsportsboard.com
1976 burnt orange Ford Pinto. Drove it my last two years of high school. (Go Spring Lions!) Needless to say I wasn't tailgated very much. It was a hand-me-down from my mom after she got a new car. Also some great memories in that funny looking car! ------------------
Hey A-Train, my first car was an '88 Ford Topaz, which is pretty much the same model as a Tempo! Man, I did everything with that car. Used to go off-roading through mud, snow and pretty much everything else. It was a standard too, so it could burn a nice streak of rubber. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel-boy.
1985 Mazda RX7 I ragged the hell out of that thing. It treated me great and it was a great car for crazy-ass drivers like me!! ...then i wrecked it ------------------
88 corolla with a radio that only played when you kicked it...no a/c 100 trillion miles.. ------------------ i am scottie brooks
I don't remember the year, but my first was a horrible 4-door burnt orange Datsun B-210 that was jacked up in the back had a radio with a horrible buzz and no a/c. I had to learn how to drive it because it was a standard. I learned how to drive by going across town to school one morning starting and stopping like crazy in rush hour traffic. My first REAL vehicle (i.e. new) was a Mazda B2000 Truck - charcoal grey with maroon interior. I knew it was the right one the minute we drove onto the lot. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
1974 Fiat 128 Sport, geez i miss that car. ------------------ Stuff BBS, the Rockets and you guys It's all Clippers these days, come join the bandwagon and visit http://www.ClippersCity.net
My senior year in high school (1975), I bought a brand new Pontiac Firebird Esprit It was fire engine red with a black vinyl top and black interior. To this day, I still love red sports cars. Btw, referencing back to the working kids thread, my father made me pay for the car myself. ------------------
My first car was a 1979 Buick Regal 2 door. It had a 318 V-6 piece of crap engine in it. But to this day, its the most reliable car in emergency situations. One quick story... I got the car in 1990 and by 1992, that shiznet was about to give out. But I had a girlfriend that was going to college in Boston, about 200 miles from where I live now. I use to take her to her school and drive back every weekend. One night, I dropped her off at her school and on the way back, I must of busted every hose that led to anything resembling the cooling system. The car over-heated and about 150 miles away from home, I drove that freakin car with not a drop of water in the radiator. When I pulled up to my driveway, the car just shut down. I thought the car was toast. Two days later, I go to the car with my father...AND THE FREAKIN THING STARTS UP like nothing. My father fixed the radiator(which had like 7 holes) and two hoses which were badly worn out. The car lasted me another 5 years until my present car that I got in 1997. The 4x4 I have now I just barely go over a NYC pothole and it starts crying like a little bi**h! They don't make them like they use to. ------------------ I Want To Thank God For Making Me A Rocketfan [This message has been edited by Almu (edited July 27, 2000).]
My first car was a piece of crap. It was a 1981 Toyota Starlet, the precursor to the Tercel. It was a beige hatchback. Man, what a babe-magnet...NOT!! By the time I got rid of it, while I lived in Los Angeles, it only had two doors, because the passenger side door was crushed in and unusable due to an accident. It also had 180,000 miles on it when I got rid of it. I traded it in when I bought a newer Toyota. The funny part was that, six months after I traded it in, I saw some dude driving it, with a new primer-painted door attached, in North Hollywood. ------------------ Bring It!!
A white 1974 Porsche 914. Very sweet car. It was a T-top, midengine, and very, very cool. The 914 was supposed to be the people's sports car. It had a VW engine and a Porsche body. But man, it gave me so many problems! It had a ton of small problems (broken horn, speedometer, etc.), and quite a few big ones. For a while, a joint for the gas pedal kept popping out and I wasn't strong enough to pop it back together myself. At another time, I had to put in the clutch to take the car out of gear, release the clutch to move the stick around in neutral, and put the clutch in again to put it into the next gear (a great theft deterrent device!). The car also made good money for me. I had wrecked it (not my fault) and it was deemed totalled by the insurance company and we got paid the value of the car. We bought another one (red) that had an egine and transmission that were utterly shot. Then we bought my old one back at a salvage auction, and transplanted my engine and transmission to the new body. Plus, we sold the rest of the wrecked one to a guy who needed parts to restore his 914. I think we made over $1,000 on that wreck. Alas, when I went to college, we sold the car to a neighbor who soon after drove over a cinderblock, destroying the car. That guy also moved in the night and stole a mattress from us. ------------------ Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
My first vehicle was a 1973 Honda CB 350, the 4 cylinder with the scramble pipes down one side. I rode that thing all thru my junior and senior years at high school. Anyone remember how cold it was in the winter of 1980? I used to ride with my left hand dangling against the baffle on the pipes to keep from freezing to death!! Rain, cold, sleet, whatever the weather, I was on that bike. Man, those were the days. Anyone got any ideas on how I can convince my wife that I need another motorcycle? ------------------
1977 Toyota Corolla Station Wagon. White. No spedometer, am radio, very poor AC. Looked like an egg. The damn thing would not die. I kept dreaming it would explode or get stolen. Finally, I bought myself an '86 Mazda 323. A week later the Toyota was stolen. I was pissed. Then it was found in a ditch. Someone had taken it out for a joyride. Huh? Sold it for $150. ------------------ "One evening I seated Beauty on my knees. And I found her bitter." "I am a sick man...I am a wicked man. An unattractive man. I think my liver hurts."
'89 Thunderbrid LX. It was my mom's car and she gave it to me right before my senior year in '94. It was a good reliable car and it never gave me any problems. Sold it for $5000 after a year and then bought my Mustang, which I really consider to be my 'first' car. I'm still driving it and there is no way in hell I'll ever get rid of it. ------------------ I need a new signature. 302
This has got to be the funniest topic I have read in quite awhile. I am really enjoying it. I would post my first car but I'm driving it right now so it wouldn't sound as sweet as everyone elses. ------------------ Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe - Pet Shop Boys Forever - It's a Sin
Ha Ha Jeff. What a piece of crap those Datsun 210's were. Ha Ha Ha Ha. Not near as nice as my first car. It was a beefed up Datsun 510!!! Ill call it smoke white. You know the white color cars that turn brownish with age. Complete with slight rusting at the bottoms of the doors. But what a car. I vividly remember trying to pick up a girl with some line like "Hey baby, need a ride?" You know I was 16 and just got my first car and all. The response was something to the effect of "In what, that?! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!" Awwwww. Memories.
69 Camaro SS/RS. 350/375 hp with an Edelbrock Tarantula manifold, Holley 650 double pumper, Eccel Eliminator ignition and some Doug Thurley headers with a 350 turbo transmission. The car would burn rubber for as long as you held the pedal down. I went through a set a rear tires my first 3 months. I about killed myself (and passagers) so many times. Never give a 16 kid a car like that. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ArtVandolet (edited July 31, 2000).]
