I hope we don't trade for him honestly. I don't think he's a winning player. The Hawks failed to have a winning record in the weak East the last three seasons, he gets hurt in the first quarter five games into this season, and they promptly go 15-12. He comes back, they immediately go on a losing streak. At best he's a neutral player who gives away as many points on defense as he gets you with his offense. He's not worth max money. And again, FVV probably wouldn't approve the deal.
I have this theory which could be wrong.....Most players viewed as not a winning player are generally decent or better players, but the system of the NBA prevents teams from winning with them. Most of them are just over-valued by teams and get paid enough that it prevents teams from building around them. They are good enough to drag teams from getting good lottery picks, but not enough to beat the best of the best. By having the lottery, the NBA punishes players that can make their team average. 3 and D players often are viewed as winning players. If teams had to pay $46M a season for DFS and are obligated to start him and only $12M for Trae who they can play as a 6th man, DFS would get stuck on a team as a non-winning player, and Trae would be a valuable bench commodity. This isn't a perfect analogy as I think Trae is more valuable than DFS (healthy), but he's not worth half his salary currently.
Y Yep, also trades to acquire any player making over $18-20 million will probably not happen before trade deadline.
I really wanted him in that draft - the only 50/40/90 shooter that year .... and he's a great player. But damnit, he's missed a lot of games over the last 4 years. IF he's healthy, I'd consider that deal ..... but man his health scares me.
completely unrealistic but Markannen and Giannis are the top of my list. If we have Durant it makes no sense in me waiting anymore to try to wait to see if our young guys are take a step forward. That ship sailed when we accepted the deal this summer. only way we win a championship this season if we land another top banana type scorer.
Go get Alvarado. He takes care of the ball, he’s a good facilitator, he can shoot, and he plays defense. It’s doable. It wouldn’t cost us a ton. Would be a smart move to improve our competitiveness this season without paying too high a price.
Love it. I think we could use Bey as well. And I really really like Murphy, but obviously that’s a whole different cost.
Maybe Yves Missi too, while we’re at it. One of the best offensive rebounding bigs in the league. Adams insurance and gives us the ability to try to flip Clint for something more useful (i.e a shooter).
No clue who’s available. But we all know what we need. Another dynamic guard that can get his own and can facilitate. Simple. IF there is someone like that available, we have to let some combination or Reed, Tari, and/or Jabari go. Sucks long term. We are stacked with elite role players. KD is too passive I’d prefer someone attacking the basket rather than shooting a jumper for the game.
Herb Jones/Bey/Alvarado for Smith (compliments Queen and Zion well) Sengun/Adams/Capela KD/DFS Amen/Eason Sheppard/Brooks Alvarado/Reed Still leaves Bey to fill in if DFS or Tari continue to struggle with health and he can also play SG.
Murphy is my #1 target but he’s apparently not available. If the Pels move him it will be during the offseason.
Put it in Jabari trade. Works after Jan 18 Jabari, FVV, Capella, Adams 2 frp’s for Giannis, Rollins, Sims Rockets would have to add a min. Contract and Bucks would have to release one.
