He just came back from ankle surgery in June for a lingering ankle problem. Give the man at least a month before calling him a total scrub.
I'm not sure who else was available at the time. Is there someone we missed out on due to this signing? And if we were signing anyone who put us over the first apron, they might as well have made sure it put us up to the second apron so we have a larger salary that can be used in a trade later if DFS doesn't work out as a productive player. Sure, we could have just signed a minimum-level player, but that would have actually hurt our flexibility.
He got signed for 15M, we had 14.1M. Maybe cut another vet min guy to afford him if NAW really wanted the full midlevel
I think he will eventually round into form and be an important piece. It's obvious NAW would have been a better signing with that money though.
how’s the guy even been back five games? this is a player that pretty much has been universally healed anywhere he’s been. I would give him a pretty long leash. Some of y’all are extremely impatient.
why are we moving Clint? Adams is fragile and Sengun is out. Havent you seen our lineups with no center?
DFS is a 3 pt shooter who averages 2 pts per game. Yet of course, he is better than Dillon Brooks in every aspect
I bet some of the same folks were spouting the same stuff about Steve Adams when he came back from a lengthy injury and was terrible. What you are seeing now is not the DFS we will wind up with. I've noticed DFS is great on bowling through defenders and standing his ground even vs much larger players. I can see he has capabilities we actually are missing.
Which point guard can we get for 12 million with just DFS salary? And im sure we can find a big that cost less than clint.. and clint doesnt even play much even with alp out.
I always advocated trading Amen Reed and DFS for either a dominant SG or point. Probably not realistic and i can’t see anyone out there but I don’t think we can win with Amen in this era of 3 ball and zone defense
Yes, give him time. Also yes, trade him. One of the very few salaries we can trade. Amen, Tari, Bari, DFS, Tate, Okogie … how many guys does ime van gundy need that do similar things.
This is a false premise and just a silly hot take. DFS is indeed comparable to Brooks in a lot of ways. But you are cherry picking DFS play exactly after a lengthy injury. His season last year he had near the top +/- and on/off for the lakers and has consistently had positive impacts. In fact last year DFS plus/minus is 17 points higher than DB.
Finney of course had some neat stats with them Fakers and Nets, he was not there that long. Take his Dallas stats, that is the only place he was playing long enough.
... Entire careers compared - DFS is +9 vs DB, comparison includes about 16,000 minutes played for each. It's not a nifty stat, DFS is just far more efficient than DB. DB is kinda a more aggressive Rafer Alston without the passing prowess. DFS has skills we are missing for sure. It's a good exchange. Of course, anybody can get traded. That comes down to what you receive vs what you have. So it's silly to just state X player can be traded, well of course he can. IMHO DFS is just not in full nba shape, this was apparent when he had an open dunk and blew it badly, something that hadn't happened in a long time for him. Conditioning and gametime will help. Even with these difficulties his is roughly even on his effect on court. DB has never had a positive BPM his entire career in any season. His effects are quite streaky.
