Cade is awesome but 30 out of 30 teams are taking Wemby and I'm pretty sure Shai. Jokic too even with the age difference. Cade vs Ant and Luka is probably where it starts to get interesting.
When his story is all said and done, people will marvel at how well he played despite having a broke dick
In a pure draft, they’re taking Jokic first. No-brainer pick. Then SGA then Luka. I’m not taking Wemby early unless it’s trade bait. Dude is one step away from being another ‘what if he hadn’t gotten injured’ take.
The east is so weak this means nothing. No one in east should even sniff MVP, if rockets were in east they’d cake walk to the finals.
I don't know. I think Wemby is going first easily. If he stays healthy he's going to be a top 1-3 player in the league for 10+ years. GMs are kind of risk averse but more in a "what's going to get me fired" way. Passing on Wemby and him turning into a top 5 all time player is more likely to get someone fired than taking Wemby and then having his career end very prematurely due to injuries. I also think you'll get different opinions on Luka, Ant, and Cade throughout the league. Luka is probably the top choice for more but I think there are a handful who would take Cade or Ant ahead of him. I also wouldn't rule out Flagg jumping in that conversation.
Let's be real. If you want to win now and for the next five years, you pick Joker first. He can do it all and may end up being the GOAT center, and I say that as someone who watched Dream's entire career. Young sexy picks are Cade and Ant. This isn't an NBA draft for rookies scenario. It's a draft for everyone in the league. Obviously someone is going to take Wemby top five. But they'll regret it. I said the same thing about Zion when he hit the league and look at where he is now. He's a 'what if he was healthy' guy. Potential don't win you championships.
I used to think that he would at least make a few All-Star games in his career. He might still make one, but he’s already missed a lot of of this season and that’s a big chunk of his career. So his development is going to be behind and I just don’t think he is mentally focused.
I remember at the time while I thought Jalen made the most sense of guys who would be available at the 2nd pick, I was advocating for trading up for the Cade pick - give Detroit whatever it wanted...problem was, I don't think we had desirable enough resources for that and realistically - Detroit wanted Cade for the same reason we did - he was the only franchise cornerstone available in that draft. ...all that said - I think when healthy he is an average starting level NBA SG. Much of the hate he gets on this board is around people trying to make him into something he never was. - He was never a franchise cornerstone - he just happened to be the highest pick we had available right as Harden left town and so everyone thought he would come in and fill Harden's shoes which was never reasonable. He wasn't a leader, he never exhibited high level processing skills, he was just an uber explosive kid who could find ways to score against bad defenses but struggled mightily against defenses designed to take the ball out of his hands - He was never a facilitator - not sure why Silas thought he could mold him into one - it was wasted effort ultimately - He was never a sniper or a shooter - just a guy who could get a shot off under duress...but it rarely went in when he was covered well - He never had a feel for countering defenders - if you contest him well he will miss it..but he could sure make a technical difficult shot/highlight reel with some double crossover snatchback pull but the problem was - he would overly complicate the shot and build a house(of bricks) when he just needed a tent. ...but I continue to believe if he isn't a high usage "star" and the decisioning is in other people's hands, he can be a decent player - even the 15-19th best off ball guard in the league. You can do worse at starting SG, but you can certainly do a lot better too. Is there really that big of a difference between 23yr old DeMar DeRozan or Zach Lavine or 23 yr old Jalen Green - and both of those guys are NBA starters a decade+ into their career so hate him all you want but these are just the SGs you hope your team doesn't have to rely on to score but there are always 10+ guys worse so the Jalen Greens of the world will get big contracts as long as there are teams willing to be in a bidding war for some basic scoring competency on their roster. Don't hate the player - hate the game.
I never understood rockets fans refusal to acknowledge how good Cade has become. He didn’t have a great rookie yr. Was hurt yr 2. But has looked like a stud yrs 3,4 and 5. He’s one of the best young players in the nba. And he’s a much better player than Jalen Green.
I think so. Its a matter of him being in the right system. Ime is not an offensive coach and with Sengun, Jalen was playing at a slower ball controlled pace. With Phoenix, their system is more wide open and like the previous game with Dallas, he needs to be with a team that wants to run and that is not totally defensive centric
From another perspective, I'd actually be pretty ****ing annoyed if Jalen turns into a star player and it's not here. I hope he never figures it out and has a mediocre career as a reward for not living up to what he was supposed to be.
Here's are the scenarios: If Jalen is still painting his nails, the answer is no. If Jalen has ceased painting his nails, the answer is no.
