[NY Post] Trump wants to buy Greenland, again, after claiming US could take back ownership of Panama

It's okay with you for modern day nations to bring up decades or centuries old land grabs by other nations to justify a modern war?

 

After reading these pages that is the comment that stood out.

Absolutely unreal. In the year 2026 there are actually people walking around attempting to justify forcibly taking a place like Greenland. Surreal

It goes to show you how through history absolutely gullible, inherently violent, brainwashed, propagandized, nationalistic “let’s make some history” ,animalistic people will support whatever is put in front them happily justifying all of it.

 

We have a very relevant and recent example of that logic. That's Putin's exact logic - Ukraine was historically Russian land, so conquest is justified. That logic causes war, kills civilians, and creates massive suffering.

Now imagine every nation or leader using that logic.

 

A lot of people will be re-learning some very painful lessons and many, many more will be hurt in the process. Right now, the US is behaving like a fallen Saruman.

If we try to take Greenland with force, that fractures NATO and brings about a host of problems that will do nothing but damage the US and our once allies, much to the delight of Russia and China. It will create massive levels of uncertainty around the globe with the resultant human suffering. We'd completely break the post-WWII order with nothing to replace it but firepower. Yet firepower is not enough to impose your will in the modern age, as we have now seen multiple times with both the US and Russia.

As they say, those who don't know history are condemned to repeat it and those who know history are condemned to see their warnings fall by the wayside and watch on in horror as it all happens again.

The difference between our perspectives is that I don't think Americans did anything wrong taking this continent by conquest.

And, frankly, neither do you, because if you did, and you had any integrity whatever, you'd sign the deed of your house over to the tribe it was "stolen" from and get your happy ass back on a boat to wherever it is you came from.

Do I want to take Greenland by force? Not really. I would prefer to purchase it or if Denmark gave it to us.

Would I let the sensibilities of 50,000 Greenlanders get in the way of the United States securing a geostrategic location that many believe will be an important theatre of international geopolitical conflict over the next 50,100,200+ years? No. I don't care what they think.

If the Panamanians tomorrow shut off access to the Panama canal to the United States, I'd go re-open it. I don't care what they think.
