He's down in the valley now. In game one (1/3/26), Newton was the second-leading scorer for the Vipers (24 points, 7 boards, 0 assists, 4 TOs). Of course, Teddy Allen poured in 26 on 6 of 9 from three.

We got our own Ain't Edwards. Time to latch onto this hopeful heir to Hakeem's throne!

I wish was on the main roster and just plugged in. It’s not like we have a completed offense, there is no learning curve. Bring up the ball, pass it to the stars in their spots, then go to the corner. Play defense, run with transition then go to the corner. It looks like a pick up game offense most of the time. —> No G league needed

For Newton to get any playing time as a Rocket he needs to play defense, hit open shots, dribble, and give the ball to the stars. He did this in college with great success. We don’t need a hero just someone to eat minutes and not do anything else but play fundamental basketball.

I could start dreaming, but it never ends
As long as you're gone we may as well pretend
    I've been dreaming
And that's straight from the heart

    1-1 in the Newton era.

    The plot thickens.

The Pacers went to the Finals last year. I wouldn't describe either them or Minnesota as rebuilding. And the Pacers are understandable because they have Haliburton, McConnell and Nembhard in their guard rotation. The Wolves, less so. PG is where they are weakest.

Hmm, if it’s their weakest position is it possible they don’t know how to change that? Just asking for a friend…

What is the probability of Sir Newton getting any playing time on the main roster this season?

We could use some help, maybe someone with his exact skills and size. Why bring him into the fold to hide him in the g league? He is the absolute answer or we move on. No investment just yes or cut him and move on to the next one. I like him a lot but we need to be more aggressive about in or out. Cost us nothing…. If he isn’t the answer maybe the next him is. ALL players in the league and even the g league can play. We will never know the fit if he isn’t here to play.

I mean now they cut him now when Hali is missing and they have a gap year basically.

    Maybe there are character issues.

There are only so many roster spots in the NBA and even the g league for that matter. He stayed in school all the way through, which is not the norm. He knew this would / could happen. IDK. Because on paper and even the limited eye test (college) he seems like a NBA player => Solid role player that played fundamentally sound basketball.

whaddaIknow? This, at least, we the human condition are a dynamic lot. What was yesterday may not be today. Less likely tomorrow.

To original point, some folks can identify certain types of players but be blind to others.

Or...his lack of a 3pt shot left him out of the modern NBA, and he had to develop one.
