Just curious .. . . Do you think JVG could run the break Could roll up you Average fans or is he all cerebral. SR610 should have a contest for the off season Play the coach . . . Rocket River
Van Gundy has already said that those that can't play, coach. He has a passion for the mechanics of the game. Please - I can see JVG and Young Stan kicken it in their youth. "Mom!!! Stan won't give me the baaaaaaaaall" - Young Van Gundy
he was a point guard in college, so he is probably better than most of us, yet he has acknowledged that he wasn't very good.
Anyone remember this? http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/rox/2361582 Dunking display As the story spread through the day, as the tales of legends do, no one could explain what had gotten into Jeff Van Gundy. Rockets players did not know if Van Gundy was merely celebrating his 42nd birthday. Some might have thought he was marking the Martin Luther King holiday or was simply pleased about a good Sunday practice. But no one could quite believe what they saw Monday morning. "He was dunking," Rockets forward Maurice Taylor all but shrieked. "At 5-5, he was dunking, aggressive and with courage. "I had no idea he could do that. It was amazing." Hearing this, but not sure that the story was believable, Kelvin Cato confirmed the tale, offering more details to build credibility. He said Van Gundy offered dunks that imitated him and Steve Francis, calling for alley-oop passes and even throwing one to himself. "It was utterly amazing," Cato said. "I was shocked. I guess he had that birthday spring in him." "He must have," Taylor jumped in. "He inspired me. I felt like if he could get up there with that much force and courage, if he could get up there that high, the least I can do is block out (Grizzlies star) Pau Gasol." But Taylor was still not satisfied that the exhibition was given sufficient appreciation. "It wasn't just one dunk," Taylor said. "He did it four or five times. And he was screaming. You know that thing at the top of his head, the part that goes over? It was above the rim." Tracey Hughes, the Rockets' media relations representative, was even brought in to confirm that the exhibition did occur. "I couldn't believe it," Cato said. "It was unbelievable." If it seemed out of character, the display did not take away from the Rockets' morning shootaround time. With the rims so low, there was little the Rockets could do anyway.
It would suck to play JVG one-on-one. He would just dribble around the entire time trying to use as much clock as possible- even though you're playing 21!
I would pay good money to see RT show Van Gundy what PLAYING basketball is all about. Even with the age difference, it would be no contest.
