I'm with you on the super role player assessment - they can't all be stars and being a generalist on the court with a solid shooting stroke and an ability to punish mismatches in one on one and make simple reads is a competitive advantage even if Jabari isn't a "star". We could probably get more scoring from him if there were actually plays drawn up that tried to weaponize him as a shooter coming off screens but that's not possible right now because you can't throw him the ball on the move because of his dribble(hoping we can get there with him)....but I think the real point is - the stiffness and relatively simple reads make him a 3rd or 4th option type of guy right now. I don't see that changing any time soon until we can put the ball in his hands on the move with a live dribble and even then it will have to be in the context of plays built to get him open - he likely will never be generating his own offense except in mismatch situations on the block against smaller players.
And has to grow as a leader, Kevin should come off the bench, and he has at least become a 2nd to 1st Option.
Better without him right Better defensively right Crisper offense right Now you gonna call him soft for not playing through calf & ankle injuries.
He got got wearing high tops too, you know what I'm sayin' The 1 game every 2 weeks part of the schedule would be useful now. ugh
I didn't think it looked that bad, just looked like he rolled his ankle. I thought he was going to come back into the game. I think he'll be back for Monday...but you never know.
I don’t understand why people keep advocating for Jabari to play the 5. The eye test matches up with the advance stats.
The fact we're begging/hoping for Amen to shoot 35% from 3 kind of shows our desperation. lol. That would be a percentage that is lower than most teams in the NBA shoot from 3 nowadays. He's currently shooting slightly under 20%. At some point it becomes akin to the old saying "if my aunt had nuts, she'd be my uncle". I'm not there yet and still hold out hope he can shoot a respectable percentage from 3, but right now his shooting from 3 is worse than bad. He's improved in other ways from his rookie season, though, so I won't hate on him, and right now he, Reed, and Alpi are my hopeful stars, but they all have glaring problems and/or inconsistencies in their game. But if we're playing the fantasy game, yes, if he ever shot 35% from 3, etc., etc. But looking at his history and shooting, in general, if we're going to fantasize, why not request him become a 40% 3-point shooter? Anyhoo... this is probably the wrong thread to be discussing this since it's for a different franchise player.
The advanced stats? The reason to go small is typically to play 4 or 5 shooters to allow for an offense to make up for the defensive weakness. Playing Tate or Okogie with Amen defeats the purpose of going small. I am for trying DFS as a small ball center (or even JSJ), but the Rockets need to have at least 4 shooters, preferably 5, if trying small ball. Eyeball tests should easily be able to detect that when Tate and Okogie aren't out there, the Rockets small lineups work (no defense, all offense). With Tate or Okogie, no defense and no offense.
What are you talking about? Tate is shooting 40 percent from 3 and 100% from the line this season… sample size be dammed that’s your small ball center!
You don’t appreciate them until they’re not there. Without Adams and Alpi, we ain’t competing with anyone.
We sorely miss & need big balls. Spoiler And of course our franchise player™ Alperen Sengun (who also has big balls)
