Reed is playing the 5th most minutes on the team. His minutes have actually been increasing. I agree with all the eye test stuff that he needs to tighten things up defensively, but I think the stats along with his minutes show that maybe some of the "being hunted stuff" is overplayed. If he's pulled out of the game as soon as hes hunted it must not be happening much based on the amount of court time he's seeing. Said it for a while, but I think he's overanalyzed. Last year Jalen and Fred were hunted a ton but that wasnt really something that was brought up much. Again, not saying he doesnt have some defensive issues but objective eye test and stats along with the amount of time Ime plays him shows its probably not as detrimental as some make it out to be.
Not really though. You can try and twist things and be dishonest about it, but if the numbers say a player is good at a thing, they are. You could say the numbers say Hakeem Olajuwon was a good defensive player.... but does that mean he'd be good defending Steph Curry or James Harden on the 3 point line? Of course not.... but to use that to say he wasn't a great defender is dishonest. The numbers are correct.
I don’t know, I think people are treating it like whoever has the best net rating after an 82 game regular season schedule against the varying 29 other teams is handed a trophy and showered in confetti. That’s not what happens, the best teams get together and play eachother a bunch of times in a row after that. Weaknesses get exposed, your effectiveness against 70% of the league is immediately irrelevant. If you’ve been training something all season thats been working in that context but all of the sudden stops working, you’re doomed.
Dawg we were taking in reference to a 31 game sample against mostly bench lineups. This is where you took the convo, while accusing me of being dishonest and twisting things lmao
I don’t have the time to post it again, but statistically even with a simple T test the odds of having the the top 3 highest +/- on the team simply due to chance is a p < 0.00001 again this probably means nothing to you and not worth engaging in but Reed is one of the most impactful and X factor role players on the team. he’s not an all star, but the rockets consistently win the minutes he’s on the floor, and it’s amongst the top in the league . That’s an objective fact . Nobody is saying he’s a super star but to ignore those numbers is just idiocy
We've all seen that Adams often gets sent into the game when Reed goes in, to screen for him and help cover defensively. That would be my first guess as to why Reed's defensive on/off numbers might be inflated. I should check that guess against the stats that show overlapping lineups, but I'm too web illiterate to figure out where to do that.
So the numbers disagree with your narrative, so instead of reflecting on yourself and realizing that maybe you don't know what you are talking about, you choose to desperately try and spin things to hold on to your debunked narrative.... bold, if dishonest. You can go this route if you want, but people will rightfully judge you for it.
You're not really curious, you're just trying -- and succeeding -- to be an ass. It was the Rockets. I even stuck with them during the Silas years. I only pay attention to other teams as they relate to the Rockets' standing within the league. Satisfied?
Dude Reed rips, I agree with you, I’m not ignoring the numbers, the numbers tell us Reed has been excellent in the situations and circumstances he’s been in.
It’s the dreaded “eye test” again, but with the exception of game 1 against OKC Reed also plays better against better teams.
Sweet, let him cook. Reed is awesome. It’s the dude on the internet holding up his little chart as definitive proof once and for all that there haven’t been times we’ve needed to get Reed off the court that needs a lower usage. It happens, we’ve all seen it, it’s happened to Sengun too. It’s okay to acknowledge it. Go Rockets.
You have to use charts when arguing with "eye test" types that don't know what they are seeing when they watch basketball. It's an attempt to get back to reality.
Trust me I am one of the biggest critics of Reed and have been si ce he was in college so if even I say he is a good player now, then he is. If we compare him to 2nd year Jalen, then I would say Reed is a lot more consistent and dependable rhan Jalen at the same point.
