We couldn't do the equivalent of a current dollar for a gallon of gas in the 1950s, when oil oozed out of the ground. As someone pointed out the other day in one of these threads, gas cost is effectively nearly as low in an inflation adjusted way as it has ever been in the history of the USA. What you're talking about is gasoline selling for 40% of the lowest it's ever sold for. We aren't seeing dollar gas again ever without some catestrophic deflation event, in which case we have much bigger problems than the price of gas. That kind of deflation would halt commerce to a degree never before seen. The first days of Covid would seem like the roaring 20's.
