I do not believe billionaires such as David Sacks, Bill Ackman, Chamath Palihapitiya, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Joe Lonsdale, Palmer Luckey, etc are becoming politically outspoken in order to "be cool". If anything, this move hurts them socially. They have become outspoken conservatives because they view modern liberal policies as being total failures (which they are). They have become outspoken conservatives because they detest fraud and abuse (Democrats). They have become outspoken conservatives because they do not like being lied to (Russian collusion, COVID, 2020 election fraud, climate change fairy tales, Biden's health, etc). Kind of hard to really say that. United States is far from pure capitalism. It had socialist services like the post office Interstate Highways, Social Security, etc. Other nations in Europe aren't strictly Socialist. But Most places there are socialist in many regards and they are quite successful.

I would agree if the entire country turned into a pure socialist country, but that isn't going to happen - and Mamdani is only the mayor of NYC. He doesn't have a constitutional basis to implement large scale socialism. I don't think he would have won if his opposition wasn't a corrupt and disgraced Democrat. The reality is that a lot of people do not want that job. I think what it shows is that more extreme politics is the reality now. Being a true centrist or moderate isn't viable for a lot of political offices. People like Trump, AOC, Mamdani, Abbott and others all are a reflection of the attitude in the world today, and more precisely, the USA. I personally believe that it is a push back against the post WWII world, as most of those that were the cause of the world landscape starting in the mid 1940's are dead and often forgotten. We have an enormous concentration of wealth and power in the USA right now. With that has come increasing corruption - and the swing against that is extreme as well.
