It is still interesting if they kept Wiggins and just got Harden.....Spo and Harden.....lol. Spoelstra could not say he only had Butler and took a slightly above average team to the Finals.
Harden is also a weird fit bc the Heat current offense uses no ball screens and plays at a high pace Basically the opposite of what Harden does
Just signing him to the extension created an implied NTC as part of league rules. The only other option was to let him walk or a sign and trade which FVV wouldn’t have agreed to, because of his losing his bird rights. I also think Ime is calling the shots right now and Stone is just the lawyer that manages the money. The real mistake was signing him for more that the 12m or so he MIGHT have gotten on the open market.
i was looking for the harden one the other day and couldnt find it... I wanted to post it regarding people complaining about Ime running iso... I dont understand why people are constantly complaining about Ime being limited and not running a system - but everybody thought MDA was some offensive genius... All MDA did was harden iso while everybody else lined up on the perimeter for a kick-out 3... MDA certainly didnt make adjustments - "we dont adjust to them, they adjust to us!" I just cant understand why MDA was so revered and Ime is sh*t on...?
MDA had defining destinations of 3..... Phoenix, New York and Houston. He served sort of a longer interim guy for the Lakers but Lakers are always tough on them coaches. He was a chameleon to me, really good but not great. He revolutionized the 7 Seconds Possessions with his master student Steve Nash plus Stat, everyone else was a Utility guy. In New York he ran things around David Lee, and then Carmelo and Stat, then turned to Jerry Lin during Linsanity. In Houston he had Harden and surrounded him with 3 and D defensive wings...... and they successfully signed CP3.
and he didnt win a championship at any of them... there was always an excuse... somehow fate conspired against his greatness... lol ok.... he told his guys to play faster... try to get easy buckets in transition before the defense has the ability to get set... reasonable... but nothing earthshattering... He also traded away all of centers and went with 'small ball' - and we got our asses beat in the paint and couldnt secure a rebound.... i viewed all of that as utter stupidity... lol Here, MDA was isos and 3s.... with no regards to rebounding or defense.... which all seemed rather remedial and short-sighted to me... Ime is still iso heavy... and providing a better offense/defense balance... insisting guys do the dirty work of rebounding and defense to get us additional possessions... and holding everyone accountable... I much prefer Ime to MDA....
Robert hurry hip check away from a ring. The suspending half the suns team was as much of a robbery as there exists. MDA was flawed, but he’s essentially a de facto championship coach The KD warriors were th most stacked team of all time and he still almost beat them
MDA just relied on whatever was most efficient and pushed it to the nth degree - transition buckets, inordinate qty of 3s, Harden iso, whatever... and then didnt have a back-up plan when that option was taken away...
You can say that about most coaches The only ones that don’t fall in there are Kerr and Pop. True tacticians PJ, etc are all pretty basic
