I've waited since 1992 to see the Packers come back to Houston. The day approaches & I hope the Texans are ready to get embarassed yet again, only this time on national TV. I had to go through a lot to get my tickets, which surprised me, seeing as how Houston is a fickle sports town - don't hate, I'm from Houston. Anyways, any Packer Backers out there? I gather there will be plenty at Reliant - the site of the slaughter. Go Pack Go!
Wait...are you ragging on Houston fans when you're a Houstonian rooting for another city's team??? Houston - 4,000,121 Packers - 2 (and that's only because we take a safety to avoid running up the score)
At first I thought you were just comparing the populations gap between Houston and this mythical land known as "Green Bay."
17 posts since joining in June 2002?? .......... Looks like you have been waiting a long time just to post something worthwile. And stop shouting for chrissake.
I've been overseas on active duty, my friend. USMC. I didn't get the chance to get online much & I think this website changed its address. I used to be under a different user name about 5 years ago. I grew up in Houston, but I've always loved the Packers. I joined this site way back when because I also love my Rockets. All I was saying about the fans is - I remember in the early 90's when you could "buy one, get one" for Rockets tickets & the Summit still wouldn't fill up. Same with the Oilers, but it sounds like you have a better owner this time. When they started winning trophies, the tickets were gone. Packers games have been & are sold out for the next 60 years or so. Don't compare city sizes, as plenty come from Milwaukee & Chicago, etc, to go to games. Anyways, I was taken back by the "PSL" situation at Reliant Stadium & I was wondering how many years of losing the fans in Houston will tolerate before they get impatient. I live in Austin now, but I went to school in SA. Used to go to all the Spurs/Rockets games, including the "David Robinson" bobblehead series in the 1995 Western Finals. Hey, sorry if I upset anyone, but the Packers will win this game.
Yeah, the Packers were so popular in the late 80s/early 90s that they had to play half of their home games in Milwaukee for a few years. I love the Pack. I love Brett Favre. I've been lucky enough to see two Packer wins at Lambeau, one of them in their Super Bowl season of 96-97. I've washed down brats with Miller High Life in the parking lot before a game with negative wind chills blasting my body. They've been my team since my parents moved to the Wisconsin/Illinois border in 1994, about the same time the rumors of the Oilers leaving began to resurface. They were a perfect replacement team. I cried when John Elway finally got his and when TO killed us in 1998... And I'm gonna love every second of my HOMETOWN team beating the crap out of them on Sunday night! GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!!!!
catch&shoot -- houston is a vastly different sports town than it was in the early 90's...but i will point out that in the 8 years prior to Bud announcing the Oilers were lame duck, they sold the Dome out at 110% capacity. That's by the Oilers own numbers in the Coopers & Lybrand report they issued to support the idea of a new dome...literally, that the astrodome didn't have enough seats for the oilers. it's all about the hometown, catch&shoot. anyone can root for a winner. see braves fans.
