My favorite city. Dropped my kid off for a camp in San Diego a few days ago, and now I’m now I’m sitting around a fire pit in Carmel by the Sea. It’s 59 degrees. Not sure just how much the “California tax” is to live here, but it absolutely has to be worth it. I’m so sick of Houston summers.
every winter I spend a few weeks in San Deigo through Palm Spring airport, 3 hours short flight to evade LA traffic is nice, my freinds there have annual pass to San Deigo zoo, they uses it as gym membership as daily walking routine This summer I planned to go frequently on a ferry to Vancouver Island over weekends Campbell River/Nanaimo to Victoria ,so many hidden gems with very few people. kids enjoying it ,you visit a place or two then head to unknown(unplanned) beach/lake to swim l/kayaking so far it has been fun
Victoria is beautiful. Hell, all of BC is. We once took took a ferry from prince rupert to the upper part of Vancouver island, and then drove all the way down to Victoria. The whole island is beautiful. Tofino though might be my favorite destination there. Don’t sleep on the US part of Puget sound though. It’s awesome too. Probably my most enjoyable trip in that whole puget sound/BC area was when we rented a beach house that had a kayak and crab traps. We went to local grocery stores and asked for salmon carcasses (after they filleted them). Most of the time they’d just give them to us. We’d paddle out into the sound, bait those traps with the salmon and catch more Dungeness crab than we could eat. SO MUCH FUN….and a decent workout for a fat old man. If you like oysters, there’s a ferry from Vancouver to gibsons that’s worth it. Buck bay shellfish farm on Orcas island is more than worth the pilgrimage, and probably my favorite is Hama Hama in Liliwaup WA. NONE of these places an easy to get to, and I’d make the effort to revisit them time and again.
Compared to the summers the Austin area typically has had the last several years, this summer has been confusingly mild. Yes, I'm confused by this weather. It barely reached a hundred degrees a couple of times. What happened? I believe we're experiencing climate change. The evidence is everywhere, but I didn't expect this. It's freaky.
Been pretty mild compared to other summers. Doesn't seem like we've had any high pressure systems planted over us for weeks at a time like in years past. Hoping Fall comes early this year. And by "early" I mean before Thanksgiving...
Confusingly mild is the best term. Was reading spacecity weather’s take on it, and apparently this summer (in Houston) was actually one of the hotter ones on record, not crazy, but up there. Due in large part to very hot nights despite not having outrageous daytime highs. That, coupled with the fact that 2022 and 2023 were completely insufferable, I think expectations have been flipped. Anything better than those years feels mild in comparison.
This has been one of the greatest (mildest) summers in CenTex that I can remember. Maybe 10 days total over 100? Lot's of rain. Morning temps in the 60s...In August and September?
Gonna be warm for the predictable future...makes me scared for what the first proper cold front will bring
Are there areas of the US that need to have certain threshold levels of snow - moisture during the Winter to lessen the risk - severity of Wildfires in the Summer? If this Winter is dry & warm, then increased Fire risks in the Summer?
Had a putrid summer of a Christmas in the DFW area. The day after was 86'ish. Yesterday's high was something like 82. Today's high is 78-80 with a low of 33. And of course then Monday the high is 47 with a low of 27. There's got to be a better way.
I should have asked if there are key dates on the Calendar in regards to the amount of snow - moisture in the Winter so things won't be too dry during the Summer. Similar to a team being behind 20 points with three minutes left in the basketball game. It is possible that they will stage a wild comeback and still win, but it is more likely that the clock will reach zero before the 20 point gap is closed. if certain areas of the US are currently behind on snow - moisture compared to past history, there might not be enough time left during the Winter season to close the gap.
