Yup - Astros (and other teams) felt one, if not both Marlins starters would be moved this Winter. Astros (and other teams) also expected the Twins to move at least one (if not two) starter. Twins are playing hard ball on Ryan. I would guess the Astros are pushing hard for Pablo Lopez. His salary isn’t ideal because of the budget, but he is a #2 starter.
The Astros are not keeping Paredes unless he gets 500 at bats. Dana Brown is not incompetent when it comes to player evaluation.
Which means if they feel he is injury prone, or not fully healed from hammy, then he should be moved.
His contract isn’t even bad for what the Astros are paying. He also has a no trade clause and was only willing to waive it for Houston so it’s not a logical move.
The Twins are paying 1/3 of Correa’s contract and last year in 50 games with the Astros he was a 1.5 WAR player and had around an 800 OPS… and a year ago he had a .950 OPS… he can play any infield spot. If they are going to move anyone it should be Jeremy Pena - move Correa to SS and get a King’s ransom for Pena- which would address their rotation and possibly outfield holes… and they would still have payroll room. Carlos Correa is a better bet to have an 850 OPS than Pena. Personally - I think Altuve, Correa, Pena and Yordan are going to get more days off because they were over played or need to be fresh, that should mean plenty of playing time for Paredes.
Correa was brought back to be the leader he’s not going anywhere and I think he still has a no trade clause
I mean look what they got for Tucker if they can get anywhere near that for piña do it… when a player chooses Boras you know they’re not in it for the team or loyalty… they’re gonna chase the highest book they can get and that will never be the astros so move him
I hope I'm wrong. I hope my post ages as one of the stupidest this site has seen in a while. As for following this franchise - Joe Sambito was the closer for this team when I became a fan. I have followed it through much worse managers and GMs than this.
Sure it is. The no trade clause makes a trade difficult, but not Illogical. Illogical is uprooting a better player, and trying to play him all over the field just to accommodate Correa. It’s a bad contract.
If Brown/ Espada told Correa that Paredes was starting at 3rd this season, Correa probably waives the no trade. Any worthwhile takers? Who knows. Correa wants to play 3rd now.
I think Correa wants to be in Houston more than he specifically wants to play 3rd. I’d put the odds of Paredes and even Peña being traded much higher than Correa being moved.
My estimated chance of each of Houston’s key players being traded this offseason: Meyers 55% Sanchez 50% Arrighetti 35% Matthews 25% Pena 22% Abreu 20% Walker 20% Paredes 17% Smith 15% Okert, King, Sousa 10% each Cole 7% Diaz 5% Hader 5% McCullers 5% Javier 2% Burrows 2% Brown 1% Alvarez 1% Correa 1% Altuve, Weiss, Pearson <1% each
Give me a young controllable SP1 or I'm not trading Parades. It's Espada's job to figure this out, Dana shouldn't be trading the 2nd best offensive player on a team that's starved for offense.
Hopefully someone is left in the nerd cave to code the right prompt for their Gen AI tool of choice to come up with a day-to-day lineup that maximizes rest, performance, and bullpen utilization so Joe can offload some of those menial tasks.
