Still need to add another safety net arm that can eat some innings. However between Burrows, Weiss, Blubaugh and Javier I find it more likely than not we can find at least 2 solid rotation spots worth of combined work.

That's if no more arms fall off, which at this point I'm pretty damn concerned about. An arm surgery here or there is to be expected this day and age, the tidal wave we've had in recent seasons feels like more than bad luck.

Very true, potential in baseball is just that until you perform consistently in the ML level. Burrow as a rookie pitched nearly 100 innings of sub 4 ERA. Let’s not forget that last season it was virtually Valdez and Brown carrying the bulk of the pitching innings. With Framber likely gone, it’s a priority that a legit workhorse gets in that rotation.

Melton and Brito have huge question marks, though they are extremely talented and may could ultimately be exceptional players. I saw that a lot of people say Brito is on the smaller end for a pitcher, but so too was Roy Oswalt; and he was one of the best pitchers for the Astros history.

I have been sailing most of my life and have had more than one jib I did not like the cut of but nobody ever mentioned it to me.

ESPN had Melton rated far too highly, he was a bench OF till we found a better one.

Average velo on the sinker last year was 95.7 same as Hunter Brown, but he barely threw it. Could see Astros making a similar adjustment with mixing that more in with the 4 seamer. I’m optimistic on the upside and hopefully it’s at least 6 controllable years on a MOR starter.

Hard to get too excited when you know inside they need a difference maker, but as long as this franchise doesn’t want to pay tax to compete w/ the big boys, their options are limited

Right. This is a good move, but it's not an exciting one and it's probably not going to make a huge difference. It is a step in the right direction at least.

The last time we got a Pirates starter, it worked out pretty well.

IIRC GM has said they're going to make him focus more on the 2-seamer.

It didn't work for Cole or Morton or JV etc so I'm not sure why this would work now (ditch your worst pitch and let's work on one of your better ones)

Tigers trade Justin Verlander - Franklin Perez, Daz Cameron and Jake Rogers

Franklin Perez was considered a Top Prospect. But he didn't pitch well for the Tigers in the Minor Leagues.

Mets trade Justin Verlander - Drew Gilbert, Ryan Clifford.

Drew Gilbert is now on the Giants and has injury issues, was not seen as a CF, more of a Corner Outfielder

Ryan Clifford is seen more as a 1B, he is developing, he was traded away as a High School Prospect. He has developed his hitting.

Yusei Kikichi - Joey Loperfido, Jake Bloss, Will Wagner

Rumor - Joey Loperfido will get traded this winter due to a crowded Outfield. Astros Fan Favorite because of his great catches.
