Alperen Sengun is the Rockets' franchise player

Not a single player in recent memory gets a foul without campaigning for one.

 

I typically hate when people say "bro/brah" all the time. But every single time Adams says it I smile.

You don’t win a championship with a guy like Sengun in today’s NBA. Yeah he has gaudy stats (partially because the ball is in his hands a lot) and does a lot of nice things but he’s an incredibly inefficient scorer. With no outside game to speak of (and getting worse by the game) he will struggle in the playoffs as he did against Green last year. Whoever taught him to shoot in youth basketball did him no favors, it’s now engrained in his muscle memory and he just can’t seem to overcome it.

I’d bet my left arm if they don’t go far in the playoffs this year and Sengun struggles Houston looks fo move him. Because it’s clear that no amount of offseason work means much in terms of sustainable shooting.

 

Feels like plus/minus stats is about to make a comeback here

 

This whole team has no business doing podcast. Did we win a championship?

 

I think this has something to do with the American culture - even if you win a championship, doine a podcast right after a game about that game ( Draymond style) wouldn't fly anywhere else. I think now 5% of so players in the NBA have some kind of podcast - it freaks me out every time i come across one these

It feels like they are talking about something they have to keep a little bit secret.

 

It's embarrassing. It's giving podcast p mentality and it shows on the court. Reed and Jabari playing like generational bust and doing podcast.

 

Despite how much I dislike him as a player as much as I do, he does have multiple rings that excuse the podcast, even if the real reason is because of Curry. Any other team he would have been fouling out in minutes.

 

You can't be franchise player if you can't shoot.

 

It was KDs shot to take. He had the ball. Why is he passing it with 6 seconds on the clock.

 

The problem isn't with him; even if Durant had taken that shot, it wouldn't have made much difference. The problem is keeping players like Adams and Amen, who are completely incapable of shooting, on the court at the end of games. Today Alperen is to blame, tomorrow it will be someone else. I think there's a structural problem. Trading Alperen or telling him "he can't do it" is probably the easiest thing. From now on, he'll probably not use the ball at all at the end of games or will just pass directly because he received a lot of negative feedback from the fans.

 

At the end of regular time against Denver, Ime did not take the time out until KD passed it to Sengun. Once you take the timeout, it is very hard to get the ball to KD because the other team will certainly try to deny the ball to him. And they can foul him for two points before he gets the shot. And he is not really very capable to move with or without the ball at that situation.

Still, I think they could have gotten Jabari a good look but no way to KD.

 

Not just Adams and Amen being non shooters, KD and Jabari are non-dribblers and not good off-ball movers. This is a horrible combination. Yes, fvv would help, but it is still a problem, especially at the end of games.

Sengun’s outside shooting is just comical at this point. He’s literally bricking 80% of them. It’s no longer about whether he improved but rather he’s actually gotten significantly worse save for that brief groove after working with his shooting coach.

 

Today’s game is the recipe to the Rockets going far this season. They used Sengun to his strength, as a role/complementary player. He’s not a franchise player, and forcing him (or himself) into that role rarely ends well.
