What is odd is that statistically per 100 possessions he looks like he is holding up. But, when I watch the games he doesn’t look the same.
People were upset prior to FVV getting hurt. I will say at the moment the deal was announced, I thought it was weird. I'm not thrilled about the 3rd year being guaranteed. That said, when I came here, people were acting like getting Capela was the death of the franchise. My guess is that most people think the Rockets should have used the $6.7M on someone else. However, I also guess that there was not a better option at the time (i.e., there was not an option for someone else except scrubbier players), and the Rockets wanted a $6.7M contract on the books more than saving Tilman $4M.
When he runs, he looks like he's hauling a few more Antone's Po-Boys in the trunk than he did when we traded him away to "clear a path for Russell Westbrook to the basket" (paraphrased).
He wasn't a luxury signing. He was expected to play minutes when Adams was unavailable. Capela has played double digit minutes on 10 occasions this season. We are 9-1. The only loss saw both Alpy and Adams missing. He's clearly not just a throw in.... You make a good point on the FVV thing - yes, I agree there, well said!
I think Clint's performance for his contract has been fine. He was signed to be third string center, no one was expecting him to play to the level of his last tenure here. Adams isn't playing back to backs and god forbid either he or Al P get hurt. Even with the benefit of hindsight and knowledge of FVV's injury I can't think of who else we should have signed instead given our financial situation. Some people might have wanted Tyus Jones because he's a PG but he was a really bad fit next to KD last season in Phoenix. Some people might have wanted to keep Landale instead, but that wasn't possible as we're hard capped at the 1st apron. The $1.3M more that Landale's option would cost over Clint's salary would have put us over.
Happy with his contribution. He was completely out of shape and seems to be catching up. Capela needs PnR/lobs. Amen can't run PnR because when you can't shoot, the defenders just sag and leave Amen open for a jumper. Sengun and Durant aren't particularly good at it. So you've taken away the biggest threat he poses offensively. They need to run Capela/Sheppard and see if there's chemistry there for the bench.
it wasn’t Landale or Clint; that’s a false choice. You want to make the case that $21 mil over 3 yrs for Clint is fine? Okay. And it’s certainly not the end of the world. But there were better ways to spend that money or hold some of it for players that shake loose during the season. Clint should not be in the rotation because he’s not good enough. There are minimum guys that are playing much better than Clint. I hope he gets traded at the deadline.
I didn't say the choice was either Landale or Capela. I even listed Tyus Jones as he is an established PG that could've been signed for the same amount of money Clint got. I just don't see anyone that we clearly should have signed instead that moves the needle. If you think the spot was better off left open that's fine too.
Landale looks like a completely different player tk the one that played I Houston. He looks a rotational player. The biggest difference seems to be he’s playing in an actual system.
Should have kept Jock Landale, he is a far better player. 11ppg 53%FG 43% 3pt https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3146557/jock-landale DD
Even last year he showed he can shoot the 3, block shots, set a decent screen. The only thing Capela has or should’ve had over Jock is above the rim ability. So far that’s not been the case, save the rare occasion. He cannot jump anymore.
