I don’t get it. What did you expect? I think he’s fine. Of course he isn’t springy capella of 2018 but he still gets out and hedges or shows on guards. He still gets out on the perimeter to defend the mid range. He gets boards and blocks and defends the paint. He was never an offensive player. He just isn’t getting playing time because of Adams. I like what he brings and wished Udoka used him more.
Probably worst move of the offseason. Had we not done that, we could’ve used that exception and gotten a serviceable player. I feel when players fail to meet certain standards - health, stamina etc - you can be cut and insurance pays for x amount of his salary.
Meanwhile, Jock Landale is having his best season ever, shooting 43% from three on a minimum contract.
What exception? I think the Rockets basically got Capela as he and Durant were within 125% of what was sent out. The Rockets would not have gotten a trade exception for trading out salary and receiving essentially 100% back. The Rockets were limited to players that could be traded, the other team was pretty much willing to give away for nothing, and it could happen with Durant trade. Essentially, Capela gives the Rockets a salary that they can trade (as they would not get an exception) that they wouldn't have had if they didn't acquire him. For the price of "the other team values him as nothing", Capela has been worth that.
I think he is fine as a third string center and probably the best Adams insurance we could come up with. I think he’s actually a little better defensive rebounder than Adams and shows better on the perimeter. Adams is an insane offensive rebounder and pick setter. Wish he had better hands, but it is what it is.
I was very against this signing at the time because he was visibly declining rapidly in Atlanta. So we give him a guaranteed 3 yr deal? The rockets didn’t do their homework. It felt like some Nostalgia signing. Really unfortunate mistake.
I don't think he's completely washed, as in he should be out of the league entirely, but he looks like almost entirely a third stringer at this point. What's crazy is Adams is older than Clint and has a worse injury history, but he's still a total badass. I think if Capela committed to losing some weight and getting his conditioning back up to spec he could still be a good backup big. He mainly just looks out of shape to me.
I don't think he's washed and he's making 4% of the cap. I think he's fine as a 3rd string center and a contract. The Rockets need smaller contracts to make trades. Had we known FVV was going to be out for the season, I'm sure we would have made different moves.
Anyone that watched him last year knew we wasn't the same player anymore. I did not like the signing and still don't - but he has been what I expected. He is fine for his role, but he wasn't any special signing.
You're aware that Capela also has a higher offensive rebounding rate than Adams? I don't quite understand the Capela drama..... dude leads the team in FG%, and also ORebs/ TRebs/ Blks (per min and per possession) Was there something else we wanted him for?
I don't think people would care as much if FVV would not had gotten injured. Considering that we are lacking at PG depth, I think people are just lashing out at Capela since he was more of a luxury signing (I guess).
I don't think it's a nostalgia signing. I think he was signed to backup Adams to make sure the rebounding department is manned all the time. Capela is still a very good rebounder both defensively and offensively. But he no longer has the athleticism and speed to get those lobs and do blocks. The biggest difference between Capela and Adams in terms of career is smart. Capela pretty much relied on his athleticism as a young player and never really acquired much basketball skill. Adams doesn't have Capela's athleticism and body control but is more has great understanding of the game. Players rely mainly on physical abilities will decline quickly. Players who are skilled and smart will have long careers if they can avoid serious injuries.
Trade Capela for a future 2nd. Jabari is doing a fine job as the 3rd center, in addition to his starting PF duties.
Absolutely agree. I do also think Clint's physical decline has been accelerated by his apparent inability to stay in great shape, though. He looks more physically "aged" than Steven as well as not having the same level of basketball IQ, despite being a year younger.
