Castle is better at getting into the paint. Better playmaker. Better rebounder. Not better 3 pr shooter.
Very interesting. We needed shooting so we drafted Sheppard. Spurs needed guys that could dribble drive and make plays so they got castle. Yes it’s all about fit. On the Giannis situation i agree. Giannis makes this team that much better. The issue is how much are we giving besides Sengun?
Reed is better 3 point shooter, 2 point shooter, floater, passer, ball thief. Reed fundamentally changes the shape of a basketball court which is something Castle will never do. Ever.
You’re underestimating Castle’s value. Being able to dribble drive and get into the paint changes the nature of a team and how effect they are on offense. He is a good playmaker. 2 things teams value in today’s league. He shoots over .600 in 2s which is higher than Reed. It’s not even close who the better all around player is. Reed however is the better fit.
Reed is the better fit If Ime can find a way to get him more unforced shots. After his offensive explosion, teams have adjusted and are manhandling him on the perimeter and he doesn’t have the ability to create his own shot more than a couple of times a game. We need him spotting up or getting freed with picks whether on ball or off ball. Durant also needs to spend more time spotting up at the three. He, Sengun, and Amen all want to operate in the same space. We only have one guy that can create and get to the rim and he is missing layups at an alarming rate. Hopefully Amen figures it out and game slows down a bit for him, that will open up the perimeter for spot up shooters.
castle plays 8 more min a game and the spurs told us what they thought of castle by signing fox to that extension
Fox is just getting the Fred Van Vleet contract - he is a big contract on a team mostly stocked with younger players and he is getting paid to be a team player and mentor younger guys. At some point they will be paying Wemby a supermax and will likely have Dylan Harper and Steph Castle on near max deals and they will be well into the 2nd apron but Fox's contract will be expiring right about then allowing them to dip under the 2nd apron before the league takes away draft picks. Its silly to think the Spurs signing Fox signifies a lack of commitment to Castle anymore than Houston bringing in Durant was a lack of confidence in Sengun as a primary creator or Amen as a wing....or even resigning Fred was a lack of confidence in Reed.
Reed is having the season we all thought he would have last year. He is looking really promising and dare I say I'm excited about his defensive potential? I know that's crazy to say but he is so disruptive that even Jokic was looking bothered at times by the poke-checks.
I think he will have to start turning in a lot of big games to actually win 6MOY, but he definitely deserves to be hovering around the conversation at this point
I think it's homerish to believe Reed is better than Castle. There is certainly the fit argument, but Castle as a sophmore is offensively doing what we wanted Amen to be doing to an extent. That doesn't mean that Reed wouldn't ultimately work out better with the Rockets.
I think hardly anybody thinks he has more raw talent than those two, but a good number of us would rather pay Jabari 20-something million than fool's gold Paolo the max. With Chet, there are injury concerns, but he's obviously going to be way better if he stays healthy. Not sure why you still have such a bone to pick with Jabari. He's having a pretty good season so far, easily the best of his career
No they didn’t. They traded for Fox last FEB so likely they had plans to play both with Fox likely serving as a mentor. They both start and play wonderfully together. Both combo guards that can get to the paint and score.
Funny thing, DARKO and EPM both have JSJ closing the gap with Paolo by a lot. Granted, computers think using up a 3rd of a team's possessions on near the worst teams' scoring efficiency is not as great as a lot of basketball fans. Granted, computers also like that Paolo is in the 99th percentile in drawing fouls. Not counting free throws, Paolo is about as efficient as FVV was last season from the floor. Not sure how this board would have reacted if FVV shot the ball twice as much last season. The foul drawing gives Paolo Top 5 player ceiling even today, but his fans gloss over the chance that he ends up as a Sabonis or a Brandon Ingram. I will say I thought JSJ would be better than he's been, though this year he's gotten much closer to where I expected him to be a couple of years ago. Opinion on Chet is the same as yours. Paolo has been so much better at drawing fouls than I expected that he may actually become a great player one day. Paolo getting praised while being an incredibly inefficient player was totally expected. He's got the superstar ability to create open looks for himself, he's just forced to be the one shooting them. I will never understand how a lot of fans can eww and aww about made mid-range jumpers and completely overlook the 2 misses for every make.
