Does it appear to anyone else this year's scoreing had gone up in the league? I didn't do any research, but just seems to notice much more teams going over 100 pts. I guess the change of rules had helped.
Its pretty simple... and not one rule change was neccessary. When the refs call all the ticky-tack fouls: 1.) more foul shots leads to more points. 2.) less physical play (because defenses are afraid they'll call fouls) leads to easier offensive execution, leads to more points. 3.) Teams are driving it in more, trying to draw these ticky-tack fouls they're calling, leading to more high percentage shots, leading to more points. Of course, none of these changes have affected the Rockets scoring... but hopefully T-Mac will change that.
when all is said and done, i think scorring will remain about the same as the last couple years. i think that naturally injuries will occur, players will begin to tire out, defenses will adjust. i just dont see how anything will change in the big picture, considering the fundamental flaw of the NBA right now is that the influx of newer players are for the most part, raw athletes.
