I bought an emachine that was 600, a little higher than yours, but it's specs are amazing for the price.

AMD XP 3200+ (Very good processor for a 600 bux system, I've seen $1200+ systems that have worse processors)
160 GB HD (Yes a 160 GB HD on a 600 bux system)
DVDRW (yes, a DVD RW on a 600 bux system)
    52X CD- ROM
    512 DDR RAM
GeForce4Mx (ok that's crap, but come on, they aren't gonna put a 200 bux card on it, and better than almost any other computer system less than 800 bux)

Seriously, that was a sweet deal, almost every component is better any other system with similar price. In fact I did a component check with NewEgg, looking at near bottom of the line parts, and came up with a $540 priced system before shipping.

Get a Dell. You can get a 3Ghz CPU desktop with 2 year warranty, and a 17" LCD screen for around $549 after rebate. Upgrade to 512 MB of RAM when you configure or upgrade afterwards.

Hell you can even get a laptop for $600, after rebates of course.

I echo Dell. Go Dell Refurb for a better deal.

And as for E Machines, I know they're getting better, but I still hesitate to recommend them. I've seen too many POS that they've made.

i see they're running a $50 off and free shipping on refurb dell desktops (on Dell.com, go under desktops and select dell outlet).

The only thing i see as an absolute must upgrade is memory - go up to 512. It's cheap and makes a world of difference. I personally don't have problems with celerons, I find them good bang for the buck for day to day use.
