To get us from Trash to 2nd seed in the West last season with a terrible backcourt of FVV and JG who were bricking most of the season? I'd say he's pretty fukn good.
I’ve been pleased with the coaching for his entire tenure and I do think he is getting better. Keep in mind that his coaching career as a head coach is not a super extensive one so there is room for growth. Probably a lot of the coaches alongside him. We’ve done slightly better this year than I thought we would. I thought it might be a rockier start.
Maybe not the best coach but in two years he has take a 22 win team to 41 wins, 51 wins, and now on track to 60 wins. The Rockets are 2nd in the west and have the 4th highest offense while also holding teams to the 2nd lowest scoring. It does take a good coach to achieve this. Sure the Rockets have lost to Utah but if you’ve watch enough basketball even the best teams have lost to worst teams. OKC has looked invincible but they did lose to Portland this year. Golden State’s 2016 team which arguably has been considered the greatest team ever with a 73-9 record lost to Detroit that year lead by Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris. That’s the great thing about the NBA, even the worst team can have good days against the very best. But one win or loss doesn’t change any team’s chances to win a championship, it’s the course of a season and the record at the end that counts.
Good post. I give Ime a solid B. He’s not good at adjusting when the game goes south but he’s a ‘player’s coach’ who lets his boys play. I’m also not understanding why Sheppard got snatched out of his starting role; kid needs reps with the team to build chemistry and confidence.
Not to mention the vast majority of the team was in their very early 20's. . . . And still are. How can these critics overlook that?!!
Mike Daegnault in a Sweep with Scott Foster, Tony Brothers, Zach Zarba waiting. 3 vs 8 on the Floor Reed, Amen, Sengun vs Shai, Jaylen, Chet, Wallace, Hartenstein plus Foster, Brothers, Zarba
I doubt Daigneault is making as much money as Udoka is...... Reported 4 million vs 11-12 million Udoka
Sheppard got yanked because he has an atrocious sequence where he had like 3 turnovers and a bad shot in 4 consecutive possessions that effectively turned the tide for that game. I've said this a number of times. Ime's job is A: Win games B: Develop players The player's job is A: develop into a winning player B: Pad your stats so you can get the next contract We all know what it looks like if either coach or player prioritizes B over A. Things go south. But if you can balance both things, then everyone wins.
The original hot take you posted certainly qualifies as mad, kind of flat earther class of thought. *But, alas this is indeed the place for all points of view. Fun reading. Carry On.
