I'm guessing that after two full years of trying hard to get him to take team concepts seriously, Stone and Udoka decided they'd rather the coaching staff expend that energy in a direction that would be more likely to produce results. You can lead a selfish athlete to Gatorade, but you can't make him drink.

I would hope his experience in Washington has convinced you that the kid's problems are of his own making, and that it wasn't merely a shortcoming of Udoka to properly motivate him.

Yep. The other players notice when a coach doesn't hold players to a standard. The last thing you want is other young guys thinking they can also play a lazy game.

Well, I first took my member name for Steve Francis, so maybe I’m not quite as patient as I used to be ;-)

Hate to tell you all, but DD is 100% right on this one. Cam is being coached by a very good tough teacher in Washington and they are teaching a 21 year old with a mountain of talent what it takes to be a successful all-star caliber player. They knew he was raw when they traded a bag of chips for him and are not on a freaking two month plan for a kid who just turned 21. It’s called tough love and it will pay in spades when he is dominating and figuring out the game at age 22.

Didn’t Ime do the same thing? How did it turn out?

Somehow it was Ime’s fault. But now you’re singing high praise to a “very good tough teacher” whose team is the worst in the league. LMFAO

It definitely can't be Scam's fault. Always gotta be someone else.

I was livid when we traded him and I expressed it here. I also didnt like and still dont like the KD trade. We were a young up and coming team that was growing we didnt need to put ring expections on so fast. Its stupid.

Ime quit on the kid too soon. Not mad at the way he coaxhed him whatsoever. Kids who can average 25+ points don’t grow on trees in the NBA.

Agree 100%. The only thing that comforted me about the Jalen trade was that it would finally open a spot for Cam, who is as good of a talent. This team is missing a spark plug like Cam off the bench and won’t beat OKC as is with the current roster.

Cam is an absolutely terrible basketball player. Sports is about winning and he is a loser.

The sustained dedication to this thread is impressive.

Washington is 3-19. Cam was a DNP-CD against Atlanta tonight (12-8-25). His defensive rating in the month of December is at a stationary traffic cone level (139.6). We who are reading and talking about these game are having about as much impact as Cam has on the court. Virtually any D1 level prospect could offer more presence on D.

Cam is averaging 16 minutes over his last 10 games and shooting 26% from 3. Outside of a stretch where he made 5 shots in a row over 2 consecutive quarters against Milwaukee, he hasn't done much on the offensive end.

So he can't guard anyone, is a liability with help D, and isn't a steady shooter. Washington actually has guys at his position that can shoot from the outside. He's not going to get a lot of chances.

Is this really a player to keep bumping and talking about?

I have never said otherwise, I just think great coaches find ways to motivate and get the most out of their talented players, I don't think Ime is a great coach.

I think he is a - just want to find guys that play my way....coach, like JVG or Thibedeaux, not championship coaches who find ways to get malcontents like Maxwell, and Rodman etc to contribute to championships....like Popovich and Rudy....

Anyway, I do think CAM has to mature, my point is that at 21, he ain't there yet, and we had him under control for almost nothing, why trade him for NOTHING at all.....keep him around so when he does mature we benefit.

    DD
