The availability issue absolutely factored into Stone not paying him before the season started. At a certain point, the availability issue is going to become a part of a guy's reputation, no matter how unfair that might be. A consistently healthy Tari gets whatever contract he asks for, immediately.
Injured Nov 15 with an initial timeline of 4-6 weeks puts his expected return between Dec 13-27th -- barring no complications. Hopefully we at least hear something soon about the timeline, but I'm guessing they're going to evaluate this week or next?
Thought I saw somewhere that the update was Tari by end of Dec, DFS first half of January. Need Tari for the Christmas game!
Would love this but it’s not happening. Boston is playing very well now and there is talk of Tatum coming back this season. The East is wide open.
...I'm wondering if this has any impact on extension and future talks. Either way, I wish him a speedy recovery, though I would bet quite a bit that he won't be here too, too much longer. We need a consistent mid range guy who can create his own shot (mood and DC) and as much guard protection in the event AH or Reed miss time or need help. No way Jose? I don't know the contract details but there's some good chat there. I hope our guys use these days off to rejuvenate and look at the Dallas game as one of two "never again" moments to improve.
hmmm "never again" it looks like we are getting Jalen Green back or Harden! Just kidding. Hope you're well Cod, always good to see your posts
Hmmm.... Jose Alvarado on the Pelicans does have $4.5m contract with 1 year $4.5m player option remaining.
This seems a bit wild given we have KD, then Reed and Jabari who are capable and take quite a few, and Amen/Sengun who while aren't consistent, take a lot of mid range shots. To abandon the 3pt shot and spacing. Meanwhile, decisively the lowest three point volume in the league. Only the Rockets attempt fewer than 30 3PA. Also we're 7th in total FGA's. Maybe I'm brainwashed from the Morey years, but is nobody else concerned that our offensive game plan as a modern day contender is to spam mid range shots? Not only do we take a lot, we don't even hit them at a high percentage, many of them are highly contested due to poor spacing. #1 in the league is 8-16 feet shot attempts, bottom 6 efficiency at 41% FG. Only 13th in the league in restricted area FGA too, so it's not like we're making up for it by getting a ton of shots at the rim from offensive boards. I know we're 4th in offensive rating, top 10 in EFG and TS efficiency, but boy does it look ugly and unreliable to the eye.
A consequence of our healthy personnel, primarily. Two of our three highest minutes/usage players take under three 3PA per game, and then there's KD, who is a great 3P shooter but still takes under 5. (You're kind of okay with him taking middies though since he's one of the best ever to do it.) Then we have Adams, who obviously doesn't take them at all, and Okogie, who also takes fewer than three attempts. If Tari had stayed healthy, DFS come back on the original timeline, and FVV not been out for the season, we'd probably be pretty middle of the pack on three point attempts. So I don't know if you can really blame the front office fully for this. But due to injuries, we're relying mostly on players who don't take many, other than Reed and Jabari.
The " never again" moment for the Dallas game is to "never again" have 0 of the 2 big lineup available on the second leg of a b2b
I love Tari but its not unfair. He is young so he prob has family that instructed him not to sign but it was stupid. He could get less if he keeps getting injured. Sign the contract prove yourself stay healthy and get a bigger one next time.
Agreed. This injury is strike 1 and 2 on the year. After he comes back if he gets another injury his contract offers are going to be awful.
He's injury prone. That's his reputation right now and it will absolutely impact any future contract negotiations, unless some organization is just absolutely desperate for him. I'd trade him. Hate to say it, but he just misses too many games.
It's crazy saying we need a midrange shot when we spent 2 decades with Morey saying it was innefficient
The 3-pter has still been a more important piece for most championship teams of late. It's possible Morey took it too far, but he was onto something and a big part of that movement. ... That plus, both he and Harden would be remembered very differently if the Rockets weren't robbed in 2018. (Not to mention injuries screwing us out of several title chances under Morey)
Derrick White is too important to that team and FVV is basically Ime on the court. Not happening. Feel like cod is insinuating CP3 but I could be wrong.
We just need Amen to slow down just a bit and hit his layups and get Tari and DFS healthy. When that occurs we have the personnel to play 4 out at times. Durant, Jabari, and Reed already operate well from the mid-range. We don’t need another mid-range shooting guard. We really just need Amen to get comfortable and for Durant to play less iso. It’s tough to do without practice time, but with our personnel it is idiotic not to have implemented more back screens and motion into the offense. Last year our problem was that we were a poor 3 pt shooting team and we only had one guy that could get to the rack. This year we have plenty of 3 pt shooters and still only 1 guy that can get to the rim. Our offenses woes are on Ime and Amen. I’m confident Amen will start finishing better as he adjusts to his new role. Not so sure about Ime, although I have hope. Reed gives us the offense off the bench we need. We have already seen what this team is capable of when Amen and Reed are playing well offensively. The only add we should make is Reed/Okogie insurance. Holiday is not it. His offensive gravity, unlike Reed’s, does not make up for his defensive deficiencies.
