I totally agree. He was just listing off guys who came to mind. I'm sure if you gave him time to think, he would come up with more players.

Maurice was standing right there in front of him as well ... may have had something to do with it.

I thought he was talking about his experiences with the organization and that when he said MO he meant Moses Malone. I have been known to be wrong though.

What would be surprising about enjoying coaching Mo Taylor? He seems like a great guy, friendly, charismatic, laid back. He seems to have many of the same personality traits that makes Rudy T so beloved.

Agreed, Rudy should definitely have mentioned me in his speech.

And how about some love for Earl Cureton, Chris Jent, Charles Jones, Carl Herrera, Tim Breaux and Sedealle Threatt while he was at it?

    That's right... I went there.

Kenny wasn't really an effort guy, though. He had alot of speed but never utilized it to become at least average defensively. Nor did he take it to the bucket with any kind of regularity. The guys he mentions from the glory days, Hakeem and Clyde, Mario and Sam, OT ... these were guys who brought it every night and worked their tails off. They were also guys with a degree of toughness, a word that Kenny Smith was never associated with.

I can see by your name that you obviously hated Kenny because he took away time from Sam Cassell. How di i figure this...well your ID is SamCassell

If you watched The rockets in the past. Everyone knows that when Bill Worrell would always say "Kenny goes up the escalator for two" he was talking about him dunking the ball. And oh yes, he said it with regularity.

Remember that Kenny was the starting point guard on both championship teams, and he did bring it. As a matter of fact he brought it in the finals when he set the record for most three pointers made.

Bottom line, Kenny was a big part of the glory days. He may have not been the best player, but he sure did play a big part. Don't Hate!

Wow, you're brilliant. I've had this handle on this BBS for 8 years now, and have secretly harbored a grudge against Kenny Smith since then. I almost picked MarioElie as my handle back then, but that would have revealed my even-more-secret dislike of Bob Horry.

And then was out of basketball 2 years later, at the age of 32, after having lost his job in Houston to Eldridge Recasner and then failing to prove himself as a backup to the woeful Nuggets.

I liked Kenny, he was a very good shooter who found himself in a perfect situation, with capable backups limiting his exposure and a kick-it-out offensive system that rewarded 3 point shooters. And he came up huge in Game 1 of the 95 Orlando series, gaining penance for a 94 NY series when he was absolutely abused by Harper. But he was a 1 trick pony who seldom played 4th quarters after 1992, and was let go in favor of guys like Brent Price and Matt Maloney.

    SamCassell,

Enlighten me. How could you have been using the handle for eight years, when you joined in Feb 1999.

Anyway you are right about kenny not having it after the Championship days. I was just saying that Kenny played a nice role in our championship days. You are right about Kenny not seeing much 4th qtr action after '92 because Sam was drafted the summer of '93. Sam was the better player, and deserved the 4th qtr minutes. I'm just saying that Kenny deserves props for his role on those Championship teams.
