jj always turns into a blackhole anytime we play the kings. or when hes facing hedo tukoglu because he can "take him"
If both Yao and Tmac are out, I'd go to Taylor. JJ should create shots only when the lineup is Ward, JJ, Boki, Howard, Dike.
If JJ can't shoot the 3 pointer, he becomes less useful than Boki since Boki can at least use his quicks to keep up with the faster small forwards in the NBA.
Since you brought it up, I do think JJ forgets about his role sometimes. But, we have to remember what he can contribute to the team when he playes right. He's an important part of the team. I really hope He learns something from last night's game.
JJ's role is different from last year, but in his mind he probably feels as if its the same. Last year JJ was the calm and consistant leader on the floor, with francis and mobley having so much energy JJ seemed to be the calm and quiet leader. This year we have t-mac who can do everything mobley and SF can do with less turnovers, we don't really NEED JJ to have the same role as he had last year because we have a smarter team than last year. This time around JJ is not the smartest player on the team, he is actually closer to the weak link due to his size and limited scoring ability (if his 3 isn't falling what can he do on the next level?). I watched some games from last season and I notice that so far this season JJ tries to create more of his own shots... but why? I have JJ coming off the bench behind McGrady in NBA Live and on offense he blossoms gaurding the backup 2s in the league. Boki *gasp* has the potential THIS SEASON to play a bigger role on this team, starting, than JJ, in my opinion. Now, I'm not saying Boki should start in place of JJ, but if JJ continues his transformation as one of the primary scoring options on this team then he will live and die by his 3pter on this roster.
I dont know if I'm the only one but I'd much rather have Mo T going one on one in any situation than Jimmy...he lacks the height (particuraly at the 3 spot) to get his shot off over his defender, much like steve did last year. This is the same reason I'd rather have T Mac goin one on one than stevie, he always has that ability to raise up and just shoot over the top of his defender that steve and jimmie dont.
JJ needs to be be post up weaker guards who are around his height. The guy is as muscular as any guard in the league. The guy's post up skills could be better. He posted up Bibby yesterday, and did some fadeaway jumper that missed bigtime. If he posts up, he can get the ball right next to the basket with his strength.
Good point. Remember the play (I think it was against memphis) where JJ grabbed a rebound and slowed the ball up instead of pushing it (while doing the "calm down" motion with his hands). Despite the fact that JVG did his standard wave thingy and T-mac was all the way downcourt. I think JJ just has to adapt a little. I'm sure he can. He's been a good contributor for a lot of different teams in this league.
The # of people ducking the question is amusing. It's irrelevant that JJ might be the team's most "consistent" or steady player. It's irrelevant that he might be the floor leader. It's irrelevant that the is a good player. He thinks he's better than he is. That's the issue at hand, not whether or not he's an overall benefit to the Rockets. There is such a thing as a good player who still manages to overrate his own abilities. JJ is just such a guy. I think he still remembers scoring 20+ a game in Dallas a little too well.
To me is still a great vetran leader for this team. A lot of players on our team need that and i believe that everyone on the rockets Team highly respects him. Especially the ones from last year that are left over....all 6 of them
Could it be he played that way because he was going up against his old team, whom i think i heard he had bad blood with? Anyways, any player who was traded from a team always tries to bring it when they play that team again.
Couldn't said any better. I like him as a solid role player, take the open shot (miss or make it), slash to the hoop. It's when he holds the ball, trys some stupid 1-on-1 or 1-on-many act, that drives me nuts. Apperantly, he hasn't learned a lesson yet after traveling around the entire league.
Now heres a thread I thought I would never agree with, but Damn, JJ really needs stop shooting so much. Mo and Howard should have had way more shots vs this LA team with no interior D, yet JJ does nothin by fire away long ones. Between him and ward, they shot 7-28, while Mo and Howard got 9 shots total. JJ keeps tryin to make the big plays, yet he is pitiful at it. Can't wait till T-mac is back to put him in his place, a role player recieving passes.
I'm fine with most of the shots he took tonight. However, he once again lost the ball while dribbling with no pressure.
Tonight is one of the nights that i really saw JJ take a lot of quick shots. he didn't let the offense really setup and he took the shot. Most of the shots were open on transition but i really think we would have been better off if he waited for the rest of the team and the offense to set up. His shot was way off tonight and i think he should have realized it and got the rest of the team involved.
I dont know why people are so blinded and support JJ. He took 17 shots last night.. and nobody who got kicked around the league like that ever should attempt 17shots in one night. I can not believe he has become a core of our team. He is killing the rockets.... he was the reason why we lost the last game
Who else other than Yao was suppossed to shoot the secoond highest amount of shots? Charlie? Bostjan was cold and so was Mo.
