The logic here is simple: after getting KD, we are fully in "win-now" mode. You pair KD with Giannis by trading Sengun and Reed. Sure, you sacrifice the future, but that's okay, Amen is the only untouchable piece. It’s going to be fun watching the "intimate" spacing between Amen, Giannis, and Adams, but absolutely nobody is taking a rebound from us. Nico Harrison's philosophy: Defense, Udoka, and rebounding win championships. This works like a charm.
Alp is untouchable, probably more so than Amen at this point. Reed is borderline untouchable. It would be the dumbest thing we could do to trade Alp and Reed for Giannis. Amen for Giannis would be smarter than trading those two. Edit- I wouldn’t trade Amen either.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...e-guide-five-bucks-deals-alter-nba-title-race They accepted the hypothetical Hawks deal. — “Therefore, what Atlanta could offer -- Young, Risacher and four first-rounders -- would be too much to pass up.” “Houston's deal features Sengun as the best player included in any of the trades who also has four years left on a non-max contract. However, can he and Myles Turner play together, or is it best to do the trade and worry about that later? (The Bucks would have $60 million per season tied up in two centers.) VanVleet has a player option for next season and would give Milwaukee a starting-caliber point guard if he opted-in. The 2027 first-rounder via Phoenix holds value because it is unprotected, but it could easily land outside of the lottery if the Suns start to this season is any indication of their trajectory.” Houston Rockets get: Giannis Antetokounmpo Thanasis Antetokounmpo Bucks get: Alperen Sengun Fred VanVleet 2027 first-round pick (unprotected, via Suns) With a 13-5 record, the No. 2 offense and the No. 3 defense in the league, the Rockets might not want to upset the apple cart. But if they could upgrade from Sengun to Antetokounmpo, they would have to at least consider it, given their chance to knock off the Oklahoma City Thunder and win a title this season and next. For all of Sengun's many strengths, his efficiency is still only average, while Antetokounmpo is one of the most efficient, highest-usage scorers in NBA history. He would fit perfectly in Houston's physical, paint-based offense while still supplying the same sort of frontcourt playmaking as Sengun. For Milwaukee, Sengun represents the best player it could realistically acquire in a trade: a 23-year-old offensive center who should make his second All-Star team this season. Partnering with Ryan Rollins in Milwaukee, Sengun would serve as the foremost building player for the next era of the Bucks, who they need given their lack of first-round picks in upcoming drafts. Houston likely wouldn't want to offer many picks if they're including Sengun in a deal, but a future unprotected first-rounder from Phoenix is enticing even if the Suns are playing better basketball this season. -- Zach Kram Spoiler Atlanta Hawks get: Giannis Antetokounmpo Cole Anthony Bucks get: Trae Young Zaccharie Risacher 2026 first-round pick (via better of Pelicans and Bucks) 2027 first-round pick (top-four protected, via worse of Pelicans and Bucks) 2029 first-round pick (top-four protected 2029 to 2031, unprotected in 2032 if not conveyed) 2031 first-round pick (top-four protected in 2031 if eligible, otherwise unprotected in 2032) New York Knicks get: Giannis Antetokounmpo Jericho Sims Bucks get: Karl-Anthony Towns Pacome Dadiet Tyler Kolek 2026 first-round pick (top-eight protected, via Wizards; otherwise, second-round selections in 2026 and 2027) 2028 first-round swap (worse of Bucks or Trail Blazers for Knicks) 2030 first-round swap (worse of Bucks or Trail Blazers for Knicks) 2032 first-round swap San Antonio Spurs get: Giannis Antetokounmpo Bucks get: Stephon Castle Harrison Barnes Kelly Olynyk Jordan McLaughlin 2027 first-round pick (via Hawks) 2029 first-round pick 2032 first-round pick Golden State Warriors get: Giannis Antetokounmpo Thanasis Antetokounmpo Bucks get: Draymond Green Jonathan Kuminga Buddy Hield 2026 first-round pick 2028 first-round pick 2030 first-round pick (if 1 through 20) 2032 first-round pick
No no no no no - Giannis is a ball dominant 2 point shooting player, who is older - we don't need him we are doing fine. You don't trade Alpi who is arguably already on his level for an older injury prone fragile player. DD
Would I trade Sengun towards Giannis? No. Would I trade Amen towards Giannis? No. Would I trade a package of Sheppard, Bari, and FVV (assuming he's okay with it) towards Giannis? Conceptually, it's an interesting question. The problem is the resulting big four - KD, Giannis, Amen, and Sengun - don't seem like a good fit, and we'd be trading away our two best spacing options after KD.
These are just hypothetical trades. Sengun's improvement may preclude him from being traded. Stone was interested in acquiring Giannis though, but it didn't come to fruition. I'm glad the Rockets didn't get Giannis.
Stone isn't that dumb. We are all witnessing a 23 year old ascension in to elite status. Giannis is an incredible player, but his game is built on father time. Sengun's is built on footwork, craft, mental ability.
I don't want to sound like Alpi's agent, but by always referring to him as an "offensive center" (first syllable on "offensive" stressed, of course), well, 1.3 steals and a block per game ain't nothin'. He isn't quite the turnstile they make him out to be. Of course, playing amongst the tall trees like Stephen Adams helps.
I wouldn’t trade Sengun for Giannis but if you’re only giving up FVV and Alpi (above trade scenario), it’s intriguing because you would add one of the top 5 players in the game and still retain all your depth. Reed/Holliday Amen/Okogie Durant/Tari Bari/DFS Giannis/Adams/Capela You almost never see this, adding an elite player without gutting your team. We’d be even more dominant in the paint than we are now.
Stupid for Houston to even consider parting with The Turkish Delight. He is only getting better and he is such a great facilitator. One of the main reasons for Houston's sucess without FVV is Alpie because he can run plays. If they have decided they decided Tari is gonna be to expensive then I would consider a Tari/Bari offer but they will also need to replace Tari/'s 3 point shooting too. Maybe AJ Green could be included from Milwaukee. Replace #1 3pt shooing percentage with #2 as it stands today.
I am an Alpi only fan and even I would think twice before I say no to this. I would say no, sure, but not sure, if because it is a bad trade or because I think of highly of Alpi.
DO NOT TRADE SENGUN He is blossoming now into a star and has recently added 3-point shooting to his bag. He is still on the rise, with his peak being something just short of Joker and long term floor deep into his 30's of Vlade Divac. Giannis' game relies on his athleticism and that will fade quickly in his 30's! And he's turning 31 this week! GOOD DAY
Why? To play devil’s advocate, Sengun is never going to be as good as Giannis anyway, so how could we possibly lose this trade?
Do they call Jokic an “offensive center” too? I actually think Sengun is a more complete center than Jokic, because at least Sengun is an average to above-average defender, which Jokic isn’t. That “offensive center” label has stuck with Sengun for a while because of his reputation during the Silas years, so a lot of NBA columnists are still relying on old narratives instead of actually watching the games and seeing how much he’s developed.
