Oh I understand. I’ve been here in Austin for over 30 years. Nothing pisses off Texas fans more than losing to A&M . I remember managing the Tavern (12th and Lamar) The Oklahoma game was big, no doubt, but the A&M game was brutal.
The only way A&M is your “little brother” is if you are talking about the PUF fund. Then everyone is. Just not in football.
Bottom line: if you are over 40, you might think A&M is the biggest rival. If you are under 40, it's clearly OU. It's not even close. Last 50 years is not relevant at all, why not go back 100 years? What's the record then?
Except you didn't just complain in real time. You repeatedly complained for days and weeks after each game. Nice try though.
That's not really true. OU has always been the bigger rivalry in that it has more often had national implications for the teams. It involves much more irrational hatred between the fan bases. The A&M game is bigger within the state of Texas because there are more families with connections to one or both schools so there's a lot more friendly stakes and bragging rights - but as people have said, it's more of a family rivalry over Thanksgiving meals and has mostly been for trash talking with fewer big-picture implications. Students, alumni and the school itself generally views Texas/OU as the bigger one. A&M obviously sees it differently because they didn't have that 2nd big rival, though during the recent hiatus, they tried to make LSU their cross-border rival. OU had two big ones in Texas and Nebraska - I'm not sure which was bigger for them historically before Nebraska left, but OSU fits the same role as A&M. OSU's biggest rival is OU, but OU's never was OSU. If you don't believe the actual fans themselves, you can ask AI for a more objective perspective: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/which-school-is-historically-a-wGn86IEETliBJWh.A_Qoow#0
Sure, UT-A&M matters more to randos like UH fans but that doesn't make it the bigger rivalry. A rivalry is set by the fans of a program. UT fans in large consider OU the bigger rival. It doesn't matter what you think. You don't get to tell fans of a program that you aren't a part of who their rival is. That's ****ing stupid. Fan Poll: https://knowrivalry.com/team/longhorns-texas-97/ Fan Poll:
yeah is this guy even a UT alum or fan? Cause if he isn't, he has no right arguing with actual UT fans and alumni on who the biggest rival is, lol
Yeah, and your little b**** behavior comes in and complains about me, rather than the topic. And, I don't give a **** what you think at all, and I would be shocked if you did either about what I think. So, you are b****ing too - ....just two old b****es. And yeah, I don't think Sark is on the same level as Saban.....or Smart. DD
Don't think that is how it works, their is no hierarchy in fandom, people are free to root or hate whomever they want, and no one can do anything about it. I have known T-shirt fans bigger than alumni.......not sure it matters to the University as long as people buy their gear and tickets. Maybe if you are a big donor it matters, but even that is meaningless on a message board....or IRL honestly. DD
This tells you all you need to know about the UT obsessed UH fans we get from time to time. We are their 3rd biggest rival according to polling data from the Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management at UMass and the Haile College of Business at NKU. Meanwhile, UT fans don't even name UH in their top 5 rival programs. We may dislike A&M fans more than Sooner fans but that doesn't make it a bigger rivalry. It's bc they are a weird cult.
